Hello, campers and restaurant customers.
Weâd like to share an important reminder to help keep Champs Campground safe, peaceful, and enjoyable for everyone.
Once you pass through the gate and enter Champs Campground, you are on private property, and the speed limit is 5 MPH. No exceptions.
We occasionally have people drive through the campground with no intention of camping here or visiting the restaurant, using our property as a turnaround. Please remember that this is an operating business and private propertyânot a public road or designated turnaround.
Please be aware that we have cameras throughout the property, and we will stop all unrecognized vehicles to ask whether you need assistance. If you would like to see our campsites or cabins, we will gladly schedule you a tour of the property. Just contact us ahead of time. 518-879-4122.
If you are driving to the restaurant, it is only open Thursday through Sunday from 3:30â8:30 p.m. - thatâs only 20 hours a week. The other 148 hours a week this is PRIVATE PROPERTY. Outside of visiting the restaurant during those hours, checking in as a registered camper, or attending a scheduled tour, there is no reason to drive through the property.
Yesterday, someone entered the campground going 30 plus mph, ignoring all speed limit signs and barreling through the speed bumps and swerving. After turning around near the restaurant, he was approached and politely reminded of the speed limit. He responded by swearing and attempting to start a fight. We know who this individual is, but we will not publicly name him. He has since been trespassed from the property. That kind of behavior is completely unacceptable.
For the remainder of this season, we will have increased security and additional staff present to monitor the property, enforce the speed limit, and help ensure everyoneâs safety.
To further protect our campers, restaurant customers, and staff, we will be installing a controlled-access gate for next season. The gate will be open to the public only during restaurant hours, from 3:30â8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. All registered campers will be given gate code access.
Anyone caught speeding on the property will receive one warning. People come to Champs to relax and get awayânot to worry about being run over!
Please respect our campers, customers, staff, and property. Slow down and obey the 5 MPH speed limit.
One final reminder, primarily for our restaurant customers: If the restaurant is busy and you cannot find an available parking space, please come inside and ask a staff member where you should park. Do not take it upon yourself to park wherever you see fit.
We have had vehicles parked across campsites, on soft grass, in front of cabins, and even blocking restaurant employeesâ vehicles. We understand that our current parking is limited, and we plan to make the restaurant parking lot larger and better organized for next season. Until then, please ask before parking outside the designated areas.
