A Wonderful Piece of Oak Park Inn History Discovered!

Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you're searching for something entirely different!

While researching the Hopkins family in the newly digitized Whitehall Times archives, I stumbled across a newspaper article announcing the opening of the Garden Motel on July 14, 1960—the property we know today as the Oak Park Inn.

The article describes the beautiful formal and informal gardens created by Harley Hopkins, the unique architectural features of the property, and the vision of new owners R. L. and Mrs. McGrath, who built the motor lodge.

As the current stewards of this historic property, discoveries like this help us better understand and preserve its story. Even after years of researching the Hopkins House, there are still mysteries and surprises waiting to be uncovered.

This article has now become another important piece of the property's history—and it's a reminder that every old newspaper may contain another forgotten story just waiting to be found. Trempealeau County Times

Thomas and Gary from Colorado have stayed with us in the past and rode into town for a couple nights stay. Travis has been getting out more with guests this year and having fun. They headed out the other morning towards Trempealeau.
