Thomas Dambo, a Danish environmental artist creates giant, 30′ – 36′ made from recycled and reclaimed materials. There are 170 trolls throughout 21 States and 20 countries. The Trolls In McKean County would be Pennsylvania’s first permanent installation.

A worldwide public-art phenomenon, internationally renowned environmental artist Thomas Dambo’s giant trolls will take root in McKean County next year, transforming reclaimed lumber into towering characters that invite exploration and spark tourism wherever they appear. The Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau shared the announcement with The Era on Wednesday. McKean County’s “Trolls in the Forest,” scheduled for a September 2027 creation, will be Dambo’s first installation in Pennsylvania and his only national forest project to date. 👀🌳🌲🔗in comments⬇️

As strange as it might seem, this is the Photinus Carolinus firefly, a type of Synchronous Firefly. Synchronous species of firefly are rare, so rare that they can only be seen in a handful of places around the world… including the Pennsylvania Wilds.

Get wild and lucky in the Allegheny National Forest Region. Where else can you see 50 mammals, 200 birds, 25 amphibians, 20 reptiles, 80 fish and 25 freshwater mussels?
It's in the ANF that you could cross paths with a white-tailed deer, black bear, grey fox, wild turkey, squirrel, chipmunk, wood frog, beaver, raccoon, ruffed grouse, rattlesnake and Trail Central's favorite red-backed salamander.
How lucky are we to have 800 square miles of stunning colors and intriguing behaviors. Let's not take it for granted.
