Peter Herdic Inn

Peter Herdic Inn The Peter Herdic Inn, an 1880’s Victorian mansion, offers hospitality and beautiful historic surroundings at competitive rates.

Weekend rates include a farm-to-table breakfast prepared by our family and served around our farmhouse table. The Peter Herdic Inn is a beautifully restored Victorian mansion situated on Williamsport's Millionaires Row. Owned and operated the extended Miele family, the Inn offers you warmth and hospitality in our gracious accommodations, as well as fine dining in our gourmet restaurant and bar nex

t door to the Inn. The Peter Herdic Inn and the Peter Herdic House, both beautifully restored Victorian mansions, are owned by Gloria Miele, her husband Jim Wood, their daughter Liz Miele, and Bob Elion and his son, Dante Miele-Elion. Neither of the properties has been in the actual Herdic family for over 100 years, but here at the Herdic House, we’ve created plenty of family of our own. Let us introduce you....

Gloria is a graduate of Penn State and started the restaurant with her sister Marcia in 1984. She can frequently be found in the evenings behind the front desk at the restaurant, greeting customers and old friends. Jim is an MIT grad who wound up in the woodworking business—but his true passion is breakfast-making on the weekends, as scores of our Inn guests have discovered. Bob is a lawyer who graduated from the University of Iowa and spends his workweek at his law office. But his real loves are stonework and gardening, and he’s been known to take a turn behind the Inn’s breakfast counter. Dante isn’t as much of a presence at the Herdic as he once was, now that he’s a lawyer in NYC, but we get him back at the holidays and weekends, and he brings with him his experiences from great restaurants and beautiful buildings in New York. Gloria and Jim’s daughter, Liz, is a graduate of Brown University (just like her aunt Marcia). Liz has managed the kitchen at the Herdic House for the past 10 years, and has overseen its transition to a local foods enclave. Liz cooks and makes menus at the restaurant, tends our herb garden and loves talking about the beauty of central PA and the awesome foods she gets from her farmers. (She also loves giving advice on the best nightlife spots in Williamsport, if anyone is looking for some good live music.) Liz has also been known to make batches of her fabulously famous sticky buns for our Inn guests. Here in our new Herdic family, we enjoy cooking, biking, wine tasting, historic preservation, architecture, cross-country skiing, traveling — especially to Italy — organic gardening, and hospitality. And we’re excited to share those passions with you!

Happy Sunday, everyone! We’re looking “Behind the Bustle” to see some of the innovations that kept Victorian houses humming along smoothly. Here at the Peter Herdic Inn, we still have call buttons in several rooms as well as the “Bell Board” in the kitchen. , , ,

A few of our favorite things right now…

1)These gorgeous, vibrantly red maple leaves that frame the front of house. They danced for us (and all the passersby’s!) in the warm sunny breeze today. Such a lovely autumn treat indeed!

2)Apples. All the varieties… the crisp, the tart, the crunchy, the sweet, the ones that break down into sweet sauces and compotes, sauces and preserves… Featured here is a sourdough discard Dutch baby with an apple maple compote. It was quite the hit at breakfast last week!

3)The last of the nasturtiums. Fruit cups really just aren’t the same after the last of these happy beauties retire for the season, but we’re certain we’ll have wintry (eeek!) things to admire and be thankful for when the weather (finally) decides to take a turn…
