I finished this watercolor for an entry of a show. The entry deadline was last Friday. Im not sure if it will make the cut but it is entered. I didn't want to create a political piece but I wanted to pay tribute to two Anthems we used to sing growing up. America the Beautiful and God Bless America. If you know the original history of these songs you will understand why I painted this piece. God Bless America was writtem by a Russian Immigrant Irving Berlin in 1918. The anthem America the beautiful was written by a woman Katharine Lee Bates in 1895 on top of Pikes Peak. After a long train ride from east coast to Colorado Springs and climbing to the top of Pikes Peak she was enspired by the vastness of our country and the opportunities it offered everyone. "AMERICA the beautiful", watercolor on board, 18"×18" 2026. goldengatebridge Arizona midwest

It is beyond seeing the obvious but becoming what it is....observation of intense focus; whereas, time is irrelevant but necessary to understand the knowing. "Henbit"interlocks, intertwines, and succumbs with density; consequently, creating a blanket of ground covering yellow green leaves against their ultarmarine violet orchid shaped flowers...Nature's juxtapostions creating color harmony within the emerging spring grass..a delightful observation. . Rural routes mostly forgotten by society create visual pleasure for artists. Afternoon sun creates value juxtapositions against the spring green grass emerging through the golden residue from winter. The forboding trees radiate purple hues imposing upon the warmth of spring. Nature is there to please our senses... we only need to meditate its' wonder.

Exploring our local country side I discovered a grove of River Birch. Standing brightly against the remains of winter teased by spring greens celebrating. The overcast sky didnt hinder my sense of inspiration. Facing east I felt the afternoon shadows creating horizontal patterns across the less traveled gravel road. As a child I would explore isolated roads, lanes to abandoned homesteads, paths to fields....I felt what this road was before it was freshly graded. As an artist I feel something that enspires me...it isn't about photo realism...it is about that moment that drives me to create that emotion I experienced. (This is my Plein Aire drawing vs the photo I took. I created what I felt. ) WC painting to follow
