Carriage House Bed & Breakfast Established in 1986 Bohn into the role of one of Winona’s thriving lumber barons. During his 24 years in the contracting business, Mr. And so will you.

Born in 1836 in Hesse-Cassel, Kingdom of Prussia, Conrad Bohn immigrated to the United States in 1851, living first in the cities of New York and Chicago before settling in Winona and establishing himself as a carpenter and builder. These trades blossomed into a planing and contracting business in 1866 when he built his first mill which prepared sash and trim work on the corner of Main and Sanborn

streets ushering Mr. He later moved his business to the corner of Front and Laird Streets establishing a first-class operation employing 125 men. In 1870, Conrad Bohn built his elegant Winona home for his second wife, Anna, and their growing family with proof of his fine sash work evident in several rooms of this executive home. Along with a grand three-story Carriage House large enough to accommodate six carriages, several horses, a second floor hay loft, and rooms for stable boys, the old Carriage House stands today as a pleasant reminder of a bygone era. Bohn built several prominent structures, the most memorable being the main building of the State Normal School directly across the street from his home. This site, now known as Winona State University, has supported the career of Economics Professor Donald Salyards who, most fittingly, is also the owner of Bohn’s magnificent home. In 1986, the grand carriage house, Winona's largest remaining Victorian structure of its kind, was renovated into a guest house to accommodate four charming guest rooms with baths en suite. Former stable boy rooms and the old hay loft now boast whirlpool bath tubs and gas fireplaces, a section of the old stable transformed into a light and airy four season porch. Both the main house and guest house are recognized by the Winona County Heritage Preservation Commission. We know entrepreneur Conrad Bohn would, indeed, smile with delight at these unique innovations.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from The Carriage House Bed & Breakfast!

There is no question 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. During these difficult times, we have decided to make lemonade out of lemons. By April 2021 we will have completed incredible, jaw-dropping renovations in the main house (sneak peak below). Look for an expanded ground floor social space, additional breakfast seating, game tables, reading nooks, and more! These transformative changes will improve guest experiences for years to come.

We continue to operate our B&B with the utmost care during the COVID-19 pandemic. With our guest safety in mind, we have implemented the following practices and procedures.

• Contactless check-in. Soon to be fully digitized!
• Appropriate social distancing at our breakfast table.
• No mid-stay turnovers, lessening the frequency of staff entering your room.
• Frequent sanitization of high-contact points, such as the lobby, four-season porch, door handles, and reception counters.
• Infrared thermometers available to conduct temperature checks of our guests and employees upon request.
• Provision of medical masks and gloves for our employees.
• Regular training of our employees ensuring proper hand hygiene and awareness of COVID-19. This is vital to help combat the spread of viruses and the health of our employees and guests.

We’d love to offer a token of our appreciation to you, our loyal patrons. Come see us between December 2020 and April 15th, 2021, and we will take 10% off your room stay. Use promo code BETTER2021. You must book directly through our chbb.com website or call 507-452-8256. This offer does not apply to 3rd party bookings.

Let us look forward to a better and brighter 2021!

Sincerely,
Tara, Don, and Tad Salyards and all of us here at The Carriage House Bed and Breakfast.
