This little one won’t give up! Main entrance has been blocked for a couple days. We have a pressurized non-rodentcide smoke device arriving today, so we will be able to spot any auxiliary entrances, close up those, and then finish filling the area with our winter firewood. More to come!

And now an opossum is sniffing around the entrance! I don’t think this one took up residence, but it is time to get that hole filled!

We have found a whistle pig (groundhog) has taken up under our shed, with his main entrance under our woodpile lean-to. We have been adding some deterrents to move him along and will close off the holes once we are sure he has vacated. We sat up a camera to monitor movement.

Wow! Thanks to Charles for spotting this on eBay! It is a postcard with a photograph of our motel from…1950s maybe? For $4 after tax and shipping, I couldn’t pass this up. It is interesting to see the changes in structure over the years. Also included are some photos we’ve taken since getting here. Seeing the change in door and window placement, the main house roof being reconfigured for an extra room, etc. This also helps explain some things as well—we were told by a local he remembered an addtl cabin in the back, and this explains why we found so many chunks of asphalt behind the house when we were digging. And I’m just going to say it now—no Mom, we aren’t going to start making postcards of the motel; use your email.

Yogi visited us the other night. This is why we invest in bear-resistant garbage cans. The next morning I followed his route and found the can abandoned and lid still on (though the claw and tooth marks imply a lot of frustration).
