Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Wayne County Courthouse is the architectural and symbolic heart of downtown Wooster. Completed in 1879 in the elegant Second Empire style, the courthouse is the third to occupy this historic site, continuing a tradition of public service that began more than two centuries ago. From its iconic clock tower and hand-carved stone Atlas figures to its richly detailed craftsmanship, the building reflects the pride, ambition, and permanence of the community that built it.

For generations, the courthouse has been far more than the seat of county government. It has been the backdrop for celebrations, civic gatherings, community milestones, and everyday life in Wayne County. Despite fires, changing needs, and the passage of time, the building has been carefully preserved while retaining its historic character. Today, it remains the centerpiece of downtown Wooster and a source of pride for residents throughout the county.

As a Legacy 250 building, the Wayne County Courthouse represents the enduring identity of Wooster and Wayne County. It is such an important community landmark that its distinctive silhouette appears in the logos of the City of Wooster, Wayne County, and Main Street Wooster. More than 145 years after its completion, the courthouse continues to stand as a symbol of justice, community, and the shared history that connects generations.
