Mid-April Greetings from Sun Meadow

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz. I wonder where the flowers is.

Despite the fact that we’ve started getting vaccinated, there are still a lot of guests who have not yet gotten the shot. We mask up to protect them. These are Sun Meadow’s COVID protection measures:

We require masks covering nose and mouth in the lodge. All our activities include 6’ social distancing. This includes the dining room, and means we have a reduced capacity. In addition, we are limited to 10 people in any gathering at a time. We don’t see this as a problem in the off-season.

Mike, Terri, and Margie are wearing masks to protect you. We hope you will afford us the same level of protection.

3. Concert Outlook

Things are looking up for concerts! Artists are anxious to perform, and we are anxious to present! We’re currently working to find an artist for Memorial Day weekend. We have two confirmed for Skin to the Wind. We’ll follow CDC guidelines for concerts. If we still can’t have indoor events, we’ll put the artists out in the gazebo, since that worked out so well last year.

4. July 8-11: Skin to the Wind Festival of Fun

The annual Skin to the Wind Festival will be July 8-11. The Skin to the Wind Festival is always on the second weekend of July, because that is National N**e Weekend. We have two concerts so far: Champagne Sunday for Thursday, July 8, and Kray van Kirk is confirmed for Friday, July 9. We’ll keep working on it! This year happens also to be the 90th anniversary of AANR (the AANR-versary!), and we’re making plans to celebrate that as well.

We’ve had an email request for more information. One of the questions was regarding the venue. That’s one we can answer easily - the Festival is here at Sun Meadow resort. If we’re still social distancing, the concerts and the dance will be outside. We know we can have pickleball and bocce and horseshoes and shuffleboard. We’re hoping to have Nine Square in the Air and volleyball as well. Maybe even water balloon volleyball. We’ll have s’mores and singing around the fire, and games if we’re able to. This will depend on the CDC guidelines by the time we get to July, but we are optimistic.

Of course we’ll have hot breakfast and dinner every day, and the snack bar will be open at lunch. We’ll work out the schedule for sports and games, as well as the menu, as the summer progress-es. We can tell you that the concerts and the dance will begin at 8 PM.

The annual Skin to the Wind Festival will be July 8-11. The Skin to the Wind Festival is always on the second weekend of July, because that is National N**e Weekend. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) leads his crew on a mission to free kidnapped diplomats. Arriving at the planet Nimbus III, Kirk and crew come face-to-face with the captor: a smiling Vulcan named Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill) who's Mr. Spock's half-brother. Obsessively searching for God, Sybok hijacks the Enterprise and sets a course for the center of the galaxy. The film marks Shatner's directorial debut.

St. Patrick’s Day Greetings from Sun Meadow

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Next year we’ll have corned beef and cabbage or maybe Irish stew, and certainly soda bread, but this year we’re still working at reduced capacity.

4. Just Passing It On

1. This Weekend: Star Trek Marathon
We discovered a problem last weekend. We ordered a six-movie set of Star Trek movies, all of the original six. When the package arrived, there were only two disks, and we assumed they had put three movies on each disk. Unfortunately, that was not the case. They only sent two movies. There was a spine in the middle of the case that was supposed to hold two plastic “pages” with four movies! So last Saturday we watched the first and last movies. On Monday the package was returned to Amazon, and the replacement has already arrived. Saturday we'll watch episodes II, III, and IV.

—Friday, March 19, 2021—

6:30 PM Dinner $8
Chicken tortilla soup, salad, sourdough bread, cookies

8 PM Movie

I’ll See You in My Dreams
We seem to be on a little Blythe Danner kick. Last week’s “The Lightkeepers” was a very sweet movie with Danner and Richard Dreyfuss. We hope this one will be as satisfying.

In this vibrant, funny, and heartfelt film, a widow and former songstress discovers that life can begin anew at any age. With the support of three loyal girlfriends (June Squibb, Rhea Perlman, and Mary Kay Place), Carol (Blythe Danner) decides to embrace the world, embarking on an unlikely friendship with her pool maintenance man (Martin Starr), pursuing a new love interest (Sam Elliott), and reconnecting with her daughter (Malin Akerman).

Now, Kirk must use all his wiles and whip the cadets into shape if they hope to defeat Khan's deadly traps. Starring:William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy

2 PM Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Despite triumphing over the evil Khan, Admiral Kirk's victory is a hollow one -- McCoy (DeForest Kelley) is going insane, and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is dead. Or is he? Kirk (William Shatner) jeopardizes his career by commandeering the U.S.S. Enterprise for a mission to the Genesis Planet. If he and his aging crew can defeat a deadly crew of Klingons, they may just be able to rescue their absent friend. Cast: William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Walter Koenig, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Robin Curtis, Mark Lenard, Merritt Butrick, Judith Anderson, Christopher Lloyd

There will be one more movie with the original cast, and then we’ll move on.

3. July 9-11: Skin to the Wind Festival of Fun
We’ve had quite a few calls asking the dates of the upcoming festival in July, so we thought we’d announce it here. The Skin to the Wind Festival is always on the second weekend of July, be-cause that is National N**e Weekend. If we’re able to book one or more concerts, we’ll add a day or two to the festival. Artists are still reluctant to tour until they’re certain it’s safe. This year hap-pens also to be the 90th anniversary of AANR (the AANR-versary!), and we’re making plans to cel-ebrate that as well.

"The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
a cloud come over the sunlit arch,
And wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you're two months back in the middle of March."

Musings from Sun Meadow 2-10-21

Valentine Greetings from Sun Meadow

In Idaho, people over 65 are now eligible to receive the COVID vaccination. Washington is ahead of Idaho, and people have been getting the vaccine for a few weeks. The availability of the vaccine will determine who gets the shot, but we’re all hopeful it will be soon.
