For over 100 years, we’ve provided a safe, fun, and trusted summer camp experience where campers build lifelong friendships. Camp Lakota is a co-ed sleep-away camp located in the scenic Catskill Mountains of New York. Why being family-owned matters.

For more than 40 years, the Mindich family has owned and operated Camp Lakota. We don’t answer to investors or a corporate board. We answer to our campers, our families, our staff, and to the generations who have called this place home.
We’re here. We’re involved. And the decisions we make are about what we believe is best for Lakota- not just for next summer, but for the summers still to come.
We know how much trust it takes to send your child away to camp, and we will never take that responsibility for granted.
Family owned. Family operated. And very proud to call Lakota our forever home. 💙🩶

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of a beloved member of our Lakota family, John.
John brought so much kindness, warmth, and joy to our community this summer. We feel incredibly grateful to have known him, and the impact he made on our campers and fellow staff will not be forgotten.
Our hearts are with John’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
For those who have asked how they can help, his family’s has created a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs, we will share the link below.
