What did lighthouse keepers eat before grocery stores?

Long before food delivery and supermarkets, lighthouse families relied on kitchen gardens, preserved goods, and whatever could withstand the rugged coastal climate.

Fresh herbs, hardy vegetables, and resourcefulness were essential parts of daily life.

Our garden is a beautiful reminder that some of the best meals begin close to home.

We are excited to announce we are opening a 2nd gift shop in the Yachats Village. It will have the Heceta Head Lighthouse and maritime items you love from the Heceta Head location, but also focus on Yachats themed merchandise and feature local artists works. This store will be at 162 Beach Ave in Yachats, on the block behind Ona Restaurant and Lounge and Dream Machine Coffee. We are renovating the interior and stocking it with great supplies. We are also looking for a co-Manager and sales associates to work there.

4th of July in Yachats – La De Da Parade & Fireworks

This is one of the Oregon Coast's most beloved Independence Day celebrations. Expect the famously quirky La De Da Parade, live music, a farmers market, veterans' tribute, food vendors, and fireworks over the Yachats River at dusk. It's a uniquely local event that draws visitors from all over the state.

The farmers market runs during the summer season and features local produce, baked goods, handmade crafts, flowers, seafood products, and live music. The July 4 celebration schedule specifically includes the market, confirming its summer operation. It's an excellent place to experience the local community.

Tide Pooling & Marine Life Viewing at Bob Creek and Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint Area
Best during July low tides
July often brings some of the year's best daytime tide-pooling opportunities. Between Yachats and Heceta Head you'll find sea stars, anemones, crabs, and other marine life exposed during low tides. Local Oregon Coast visitors frequently recommend Bob Creek, located between Yachats and Florence, as one of the better tide-pooling locations in this stretch.

July is peak season in Florence's Old Town district, with art galleries, waterfront dining, shopping, and regularly scheduled community events. Check the city's July calendar before your trip for concerts, exhibits, and special summer programming.
