Joshua Tree National Park is home to nearly 800 species of vascular plants, shaped by the meeting of the Mojave and Colorado Deserts.

From the sculptural Joshua tree to the glowing cholla, the resilient creosote, and the surprise of palm oasis, each one plays a role in the ecology and beauty of this place.

The desert has its own language, and these resilient plants that grow in harsh conditions remind us of nature’s innate wisdom to thrive.

It is part of what makes this land so healing and is honored to host some of the most transformative wellness retreats!🌵🌸

From the moment we laid the first stone at , we knew this labyrinth would become more than a design feature. Given the rich history and power through centuries, it has now become a living sacred element of the property. The time and patience that went into building it reflected so much of the message of the labyrinth. 🧡

Labyrinths have been guiding souls for centuries and across cultures.

Carved into Stone Age rock, woven into ancient Greek objects, and later built into 12th-century cathedrals, they’ve always represented the same sacred idea that the journey inward toward the Divine is powerful.

They’ve been used as walking meditations, paths of transformation, reflection, and connection between Earth and Spirit.

Building this labyrinth was one of the most meaningful experiences - a true meditation and created a deep connection to the Earth.

Our Gaia Villa labyrinth carries that lineage in every curve and stone we placed with our hands. It is a space where movement becomes mindfulness, and the land itself becomes the teacher.

In our next post, we’ll share how to use this sacred spiral at our property for your own walking meditation to ground, release, and return home to your soul’s center.

Hello, I’m May 🌿

For those I haven’t met, a bit about me and what’s led me here to the present …

I’ve had the fortune of a very blessed career in holistic wellness of various modalities including as a yoga therapist and instructor of over 15 years. I’m also the founder and creator of Gaia Villa, a wellness retreat property in So Cal’s Joshua Tree.

The photos show a glimpse into my journey. In 2010, I adventured abroad for 2 years studying and teaching yoga while living at yoga ashrams and retreat centers across India, Nepal, Thailand, and Singapore. Those experiences showed me the power of getting away from our everyday comforts and familiar environments. When I stepped into the unknown, it opened space for new perspectives and ways of being to emerge.

My teachers are countless, including amazing doctors and experts in their field. And I encountered teachers who magically appeared -- loved ones (through lineage and chosen ones), my clients/students, strangers on my path, creatures of all shapes and sizes, and of course the natural world that continues to humble me.

Through my work with re:YOGA Therapy, I’ve also seen how many wellness professionals, including myself, can become ungrounded or burnt out despite our best intentions. Gaia Villa was created from an inspiration to serve as a space where wellness practitioners and guests alike can heal, transform, and reconnect with their authentic spirit and feel whole.

And now something new is taking root! 🌱 An iniative that carries the same heart as Gaia, born from a desire to serve in a deeper and more expansive way. I can’t wait to share it with you soon.
