It's Climbers That Care Season again! 🎄🎁

RRGCC is partnering with Beattyville Housing & Development to bring back our “Climbers that Care” program for Christmas time!

Climbers That Care is a donation drive that benefits our neighbors to the RRG down in Beattyville, Kentucky. 🫶🏼

This season, Beattyville Housing & Development has identified their greatest needs for donated items to be Christmas gifts as well as non-perishable food donations. The program will wrap up just in time to distribute these supplies to those in need just before Christmas.

Now through December 15th, look for bins with these flyers on them to drop off items at any of the regional gyms below or purchase items through the ✨ Amazon Wishlist ✨ at the link in our bio that will ship directly to Beattyville Housing & Development.

Wed morning update: We would like to thank the public for sharing out our missing persons report. As a result of those efforts, we received a lead that Scott was looking for directions on how to locate Sal Branch Waterfalls within the Wilderness area of DBNF. We sent a group of 11 searchers into the area last night and searched until after midnight but we were unable to locate him. This is a very rugged off trail area to search and visibility was compromised by darkness and fog. We ask the public to please stay clear of the area between Gladie Center and Osborne Bend Parking areas today. Parking is limited and search teams will need to utilize what little parking there is along the roadways. Also, please use caution if driving through the area as there will be a heavy SAR presence in this general area.

Wolfe County Search & Rescue is actively searching for Scott Allen Hern. His vehicle was last seen at the Tower Rock Parking area along Hwy 715 in the Red River Gorge. We have a report of him being seen on July 13th but this isn't 100% confirmed. He was last seen by his family in Ironton Ohio on July 4th. If you have seen Scott, please contact the Wolfe County dispatch at 606-668-6757. We plan to have dog teams in the area on the morning of July 17th weather permitting.

Do you know who owns the property where you are climbing? This past spring our climber stewards asked everyone they met that same question. Surprisingly, most people don’t know. Therefore, they don’t realize the different rules and guides to climbing at different areas of the Red. Each climbing area has specifics, but, simply broken down, there are 3 types of owners in the Red, the Daniel Boone National Forest, private ownership, and local climbing organizations.

Daniel Boone National Forest is where the first routes were established in RRG. It is home to many classic routes. Climbing areas in DBNF include Military Wall, Left Flank, Long Wall, Pebble Beach, Indian Creek, Fortress Wall, Phantasia, Sky Bridge Ridge, Funk Rock City, Emerald City, and Global Village.

Before you head out to any area to climb, a little research goes a long way. For info on DBNF check the Rules and Regulations page on their website for a complete list of general rules for their property. Also, check the DBNF climbing page for info specific to climbing. All the guidebooks have good information as well. The brief and quick of it, on DBNF property, no fires or camping near the crag, follow Leave No Trace, don’t create trails, don’t add bolts, park in designated areas, and stay out of fenced-off areas.
