Trumpetbush Manor

Trumpetbush Manor This 17th century property is a guesthouse located in the heart of downtown Christiansted. Together The property comprises of two buildings. Croix has to offer.

This 17th century property is located in the heart of downtown Christiansted. A main commercial/residential structure that faces King St. and a smaller building tucked in the back courtyard. Full of "Old World" charm, both buildings are characteristic of the Danish West Indian style of architecture. Together there are four rental suites available for our guests. Location:
We are one block away fro

m the best bakery in town where locals line up every morning to get Crucian style 'titi bread' 'butter bread', 'bush tea' and other breakfast favorites. In a two to three block radius are some of the best local food spots serving up dishes like roti, stewed oxtail, curry goat, salt fish and ducanna, kallaloo and other Crucian/Caribbean delicacies. We are also five minutes away from fine dining restaurants, historic churches and cemeteries, exquisite handmade jewelry shops, museums, nightlife, cool bars and restaurants on the boardwalk, great duty-free shopping, the seaplane (in case you want to hop over to/or are hopping over from St. Thomas) and even the beach! On the boardwalk you can organize sailing, jet skiing, fishing, and head over to Buck Island or the Cay for swimming and snorkeling. And because of the great town location you are just a taxi ride away from everything else that St. From the Airport:
Henry Rohlsen Airport is the airport on St. Croix. From our place it's about a 15-20 min drive. From the Seaplane:
Other than the airport there is a seaplane that lands just west of the boardwalk. It's about 3-4 blocks from our place. Closest Beach:
The closest beach is 5 blocks away at what locals call "Hotel on the Cay". It is actually named Protestant Cay and there are accommodations there, a restaurant, bathrooms, beach chairs, jet skis, etc..To get there you simply walk down to the boardwalk and a small ferry boat shuttles people back and forth all day for $5. From door to the beach we estimate 15 min. Cars & Parking:
Although a car is not needed to enjoy the town, one is recommended to fully explore the island. If you choose to rent a car there are several agencies in walking distance. Although we do not have off-street parking, the entrance is located on a side street with plenty of parking available.

We have had some really interesting guests this season thus far. Julie has a tiny house building business in NC who adored the wooden cottages that populate the town. There was Donya and her son Jordan who is training for the Olympics with Crucian track coach extraordinaire Adrian Duran. We also had a lovely family from Denmark who brought me a gift from the Royal Copenhagen that was so similar to my Chaney Painting series I swore it was on purpose (but it was a coincidence!). Carol and her husband from Detroit had a two week stay and absolutely fell in love with St. Croix and immediately started looking for property the next day they got here. There was also Amanda who was en route to PR and stayed one night and took a private salsa class with Rivert. And Mille, a curator from the National Museum of Denmark who hung out with us at Jump Up her first night and did lots of research for an upcoming exhibition in 2017 about the VI and Denmark. At the moment we have two couples from Estonia! Yes, Estonia! It's always fun meeting new people at Trumpetbush Manor!!!!

"Wow..We loved St. Croix. The Island is a mixture of things.. low key compared to other Islands I understand, and I found this to be true. We did not want to stay at a resort, pay those kinds of fees, and not be connected to the local scene. That's what you get at La Vaughn's! I miss the place already.. Even looked around at the real estate, which is a buyers market. The town, Christenstead is depressed. Many boarded up buildings, even though it has immense charm. The refinery closed a couple years ago, ouch, people left. The scene at night was welcoming, it was also the holidays. Daytime too, but more of people going on excursions to Buck Island, and Scuba Diving. BIG here. This is not a glitzy tourist location, you do have some shops on the nice! boardwalk. You will find interesting places on Company street. Good coffee place there, with breakfast. La Vaughn's place is a 5-7 min walk from all this. Right on King street, in the local area. Singh's 1/2 block away serving ready made locals food, is excellent, and cheap compared to the pubs servings gringo's on the boardwalk. The bakery across from them is perfect, Bush Tea, fresh baked goods. Went there every morning. Do this for sure. You will be among the only tourist types there, if that's what you can imagine your trip to be like. Yes, it's a bit noisy on the street, and there are bars that can make noise. Depends on holidays. This is not for those looking for a resort to be pampered, or quiet. She supplies you with an electo mosquito ratchet, needed this time of year inside. Have to be honest, the host was as helpful as needed and went overboard for us. You will not be disappointed. She Knows St. Croix, grew up there, went to Columbia Univ. in NY, is involved in the teaching at the local university in USVI, her husband is very nice and they have three little girls, nice family. You will have to decide if the place is for you. You have street people around at that part of town, it did not bother me. Be careful is all. I prefer to have the full experience. I was with my wife and 13 year old. You also have some nice places down closer to the boardwalk, but NOT on the boardwalk, unless you like to party and eat pub food. There is a new market just outside of town, going east that compares to any Fresh Foods Market in the states. You have a stocked kitchen at LaVaughn's. Better than the Pueblo grocery. The apartment as described. Tasteful, clean. Has TV for Netflix, no cable. has Wifi. Ceiling Fans, no AC. ok. Security gate. Go to the Buccaneer's Resort short ride out east for the best near beach IMO -beaches are open to public. Beach on Cay is ok, closest can walk and take a boat for $5."

I love this room. We put the final touches on the second of the two bedrooms in our unit that overlooks King St. The historic windows are beautiful and combined with the high ceilings give the room this grand Old World feel. This unit in
total can hold 6-7 people.

From a recent guest:
"Hi La Vaughn,
It's been really busy since we got back with jumping right back into work and all but I didn't want too much time to pass before I took the time to thank you for your hospitality during our wonderful stay in St. Croix. First I would like to say that your "casita" was wonderful. It was a perfect fit for my sister and I. It had everything that we needed. Thank you for all the information about the neighborhood. We loved Singh's!! And the jiffy mart became our go-to spot. The walk to the Pueblo supermarket was long, but it gave us an opportunity to see more of this beautiful island. We enjoyed going over to the Cay and we found a lovely shop with locally made gifts to take back souvenirs.
More importantly I would like to thank you for your personal touch during this stay. We really appreciate the family atmosphere that you bestowed upon us. From taking time out of your day to show us around the island to connecting us with your friends for the trip to Buck Island. Thank you for inviting us to hear Rivert play. It was awesome and we wished it was longer! You have an amazing family! Your girls are so sweet and beautiful! This whole experience made us feel like a part of your circle of family/friends.
This stay was the best experience that we have had during any of our "sister summits"! And this was because of this amazing island and your incredibly generous/kind/welcoming spirit!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
S and J"
