🦜 Somebody once told me "Any hotel that kicked out Jimmy Buffett is my kinda place" 😆 He clearly was not a fan of Jimmy. It wasn't me personally that 86ed him, but I'm sure it happened. 🧂 🌼 🍔 Club Comanche
We here at the hotel were sorry to learn of Jimmy's passing, but fully support his escapism lifestyle.
I'll post another story when I get permission

More Oppenheimer stories!
"It is a story I’ve heard referred to but never confirmed. The 72’ sailing yawl “Comanche” was sailed from Port May, New Jersey to St Croix by Ted Dale and Guy Reynolds, co-founders of Club Comanche Hotel, in 1948, where they settled and bought the property and opened the Comanche Hotel, with 5 guest rooms on the third floor of 1 Strand Street, on November 11, 1948. Oppenheimer stayed with Ted Dale in his home at Pull Point for about a month and designed the (possibly first in the Caribbean) suspension bridge between the swimming pool deck and the sun deck on the roof of the Stag House nearest the Mill on Plot 40A Strand and supervised its construction."

A lot of excitement about the Oppenheimer movie these days, here’s an excerpt from the book American Prometheus. ⛵️⛵️⛵️
“Late in 1951, Tony then seven was diagnosed with a mild case of polio and doctors advise the Oppenheimers to take her somewhere warm and humid. That Christmas they rented a 72 foot ketch the Comanche and spent two weeks sailing around St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. The Comanche was owned and captained, by Ted Dale, a warm and gregarious man who quickly won Roberts affection. Dale sailed the boat over to St. John a tiny jewel of an island with pristine white beaches and turquoise waters. Anchoring in Trunk Bay, they went to shore and explored. Charmed Robert wrote a letter to Ruth home in describing St. John. Ruth replied ‘So the warm waters, the bright fish, the soft tradewinds must all have been welcome and restoring’. St. John left a deep impression upon the Oppenheimer’s. Tony recovered from her bout with polio, years later she would return to this lovely island, paradise and make it her permanent home” Club Comanche
