As Hurricane Irma moves on so does the media coverage. It seems like the news outlets always cover the front end of storm systems, paying little attention to the aftermath. Looking back at Irma, St. Croix was incredibly lucky sustaining relatively minor damage. Unfortunately, our sister islands St. Thomas, St. Johan and the BVIs have been decimated with heavy damage. Entire communities have been destroyed. St. Croix has become a natural staging area for the relief effort, which has prompted a flotilla of vessels bringing supplies to St. Thomas and St. John and bringing victims back. Right now people are on the ground, clearing roads to get to remote communities, assessing injuries and damage to basic infrastructure. The St. Croix community has come together funneling water, food, medicine, fuel, batteries, chainsaws, blankets and other supplies that is, as I write this, on its way across the straight to our sister Islands. You can help too, by donating to the cause. Every little contribution helps. Thank you in advance! The article below is written by Tim Duncan, formerly in the NBA, who grew up on St. Croix. There's a link to his fundraising campaign in the article, seeded with a personal $250,000 contribution by Duncan.
