Always greet people and start a conversation with a Good Morning, Afternoon, or Good night! We all value friendliness and politeness! St. Croix may look like a tiny little island on a map, but we are big and spread out! Many parts of our island are long, flat roads, but we also have curvy, hilly bumpy roads going through rainforest sections that you'll want to explore...there are pigs in the rainforest that love to share a Ginger Beer with you! There are several different car rental companies at the airport for your convenience. There are van taxis to use for special drives, but a rental car is far more economical. Just keep in mind, We drive on the LEFT! Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it! Also, look out for deer, mongoose families, giant land crabs that could burst the tires, large boas, horses, and cars driving head on into your lane to avoid the potholes. Cell Phone Service:
In certain parts on the island you won't receive cell phone service, (like where we are) but if your smart phone has WIFI capability, No Problem! You'll be able to use our WIFI to make phone calls and post all those beautiful pictures you'll be taking! Many other places do have WIFI available to use as well. AT&T and Sprint work here. Verizon does not. We have extra beach towels for your use, just ask at check in! Walking around in your bathing suit anywhere other than the beach is not acceptable. Bathing suits for the beach, Decent cover ups and clothing everywhere else! We conserve everything we can here... ESPECIALLY water and electricity. Always turn lights and fans and a/c off when leaving a room. Be mindful of water consumption when showering. There is no open container law here. Yes, that's right, you can drink while you're driving, but please be responsible for yourself and family and others. If you have had too much, there are van taxis to call, or a friendly local can help you out as well, Safety First! It is illegal to be on your cell phone and to not buckle up, so be sure to do so! Please respect our reefs! When snorkeling, please do not touch or stand on the coral. It takes a loooonnng time to regrow, and we desperately need and love them. Not to mention some coral is poisonous, and you risk stepping on a sea urchin. Nobody wants spines in their feet! Wear sunscreen! You don't want to get burned! We are closer to the sun here than the rest of the world. If you do get burnt, use our real aloe plants...cut it open and smear the goop all over you. It will smell like chicken noodle soup, but it does the trick!
