Massive bunches of bananas from our banana trees generate big smiles from Leo! And they taste fantastic. We should have enough bananas being grown on site this year to share regularly with guests. 😃 A bunch of bananas is called a “hand.” Leo is a very “handy” guy to have around!

Leo - sitting on the old stone wall outside of the Platation Cottage, a Danish-era structure, dating to about 1720. My parents’ first home.

About 30 years ago, as as young St. Lucian - and fairly fresh to St. John - as we were building an inn, in the 1980’s, Leo repaired that very stone wall that he is now sitting on. Nothing like old friends.❤️😎
The wall is low and graceful in shape - curvilinear - first laid by my father about 1951, following what was there, before, as my parents made the ruin habitable. No electricity or vehicles - just a donkey. This structure is a quiet and strong reminder of when life was more “simple.” The plantation cottage is my favorite building of all time. ❤️

Leo loves his leaf blower😃but is considerate of when and where to use it.
It’s so much easier than sweeping up leaves and fallen bougainvillea flowers, that it’s his favorite tool!😎

This picture, of the old airport in St. Thomas, with its giant fans up high circulating what passed for cooler air, was a faded, pale-green, metal shell - a WWII airplane hangar - that was much beloved, for its vast, airy, eccentric shape, and the memories it stirs, of the excitement of standing at the gateway, right on the tarmac edge, to meet friends and family members arriving on loud, propeller-driven planes that heaved and lumbered in a circle, before unloading passengers.
This photo reminds us of the more informal days here…when the warm breezes blew directly into the wide open hangar, the ladies often wore sleeveless tops, and the cold Heinekens frosted up when they hit the warm air…

It was a different, simpler, time…❤️

St. Thomas Children’s Parade went off, yesterday, after an unexplained 4 hour delay in starting.🤪 The colorful outfits and cute, smiling faces, were a blast to see. Thank goodness I had ear plugs to dampen the booming sound trucks! Our representative was my younger daughter, Savanna, who is a Lindholm co-manager, with her brother, Tim. She did a heck of a job, under hot and challenging conditions, dancing down the streets of Charlotte Amalie,  as a Moko Jumbie (African spirit, on high stilts). I rode along, comfortably, with other parents, in a van-pulled trolley. Today is the even larger, Adults Parade. She has, somehow, summoned the energy to go back over to watch the show, with a good friend from St.T. The St. John Carnival Parade, on July 4, is no less colorful, but is much smaller, and more fun, I think. 😎

Still so much color and life in our turquoise waters!
I enjoyed a fantastic snorkel with a friend, yesterday, from main Caneel Beach (now open to the public, and with free parking) around the rocky point, to Scott Beach, and back, yesterday. Awesome coral colors, and schools of yellow and bright silver fish, surging in unison with the swell, but holding formation.
When other beaches are stirred up and cloudy, Caneel is protected from the N swells, which are almost over, as the cold fronts give way to Summer. With all the opened little clam shells, there must be a healthy little octopus community living there.

One of our guests, Christina, took this awesome bananaquit bird photo the other day, while she was enjoying breakfast on our patio. Christina had not realized that she’d captured the yellow bird in flight, and was happily surprised when sorting her pictures. We all enjoy the colorful and energetic bananaquits and hummers zipping around in the morning. Adelina does a great job of mixing the right (a lot of sugar!) combination of sugar and water, and regularly cleans the feeder.

With all the recent, deserved, publicity about the VI’s extremely unreliable electricity, and the resulting great inconvenience and discomfort to visitors, our decision several years ago to invest in a larger back-up generator that kicks in automatically, and powers everything, was sheer genius. I credit Tim with pushing for that move.
Our guests usually don’t even realize that there’s been a power outage. And that’s the way we like it. Vacations are expensive and hard-earned, and should be able to be enjoyed, without hassle. 😎
