Our beloved St.John is in the New York Times. And the front photo is Coral Bay and our Happy Our hillside. It's an in-depth story of the boating issues facing the the Virgin Islands as many more boats than usual are finding a place to ride out the pandemic and all the challenges and safety concerns that go with it.

Hundreds of boaters stuck in the Caribbean have converged on the U.S. Virgin Islands, but there are fears that their safe haven comes at a cost for residents.

Sometimes some clouds or showers on St.John aren't a bad thing. Take today for instance. Look at this amazing phenomenon called a "sundog" (or sunbow or sun halo) as seen in Coral bay earlier today. Wow! A sundog (scientific name "parhelion" means "with the sun") is a relatively common halo, an atmospheric optical phenomenon mostly associated with the refraction of sunlight by small ice crystals making up cirrus or cirrostratus clouds.

Here is important and helpful information about the January 1st USVI ban on harmful sunscreens. This article includes a link to a great list of all the many coral-safe sunscreens that come in every SPF and price. Tourism is the lifeblood of St.John and all the VI, and to protect the world-class beaches and snorkeling in the future, we all need to be part of protecting our coral reefs as part of sustainable tourism. Kudos to the USVI for being out front with this law.

The U.S. Virgin Islands recently outlawed sunscreens with ingredients believed to harm coral reefs and other marine life. It's not the first such law — Hawaii and Key West, Fla., have passed similar measures — but it may be the first American entity to enforce such a ban.
