Tết "Pây Tái" – The Ullambana Season in Cao Bằng🏠
From early July of the Lunar Calendar, the festive spirit of "Pây Tái" fills every corner of Cao Bằng villages. Local markets bustle with activity as people prepare sticky rice, traditional cakes, and rich roasted ducks. Following the ancient proverb "Eat chicken in January, eat duck in July", every household prepares ducks for the sacred family feast.
Though known as the Mid-July Festival, "Pây Tái" reaches its peak on the 14th day of the 7th Lunar Month. In the Tày & Nùng languages, "Pây Tái" means "returning to the maternal home"—a precious tradition where married daughters and their families return to visit her parents, cook heartfelt meals, pay respects to the village guardian spirits, and honor their ancestors.
As the Ullambana season returns year after year, bustling markets and warm kitchen fires keep this ancient culture alive. More than just a tradition, it remains a profound reminder of filial piety, roots, and family bonds passed down through generations.
Wishing you and your family a peaceful, warm, and meaningful Vu Lan season! ❤️
