As we know, Vietnam is a rice country. We have rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We eat snack which is made from rice, rice cake and we even make rice alcohol. Today, we went to visit the family of Hoan- one of our easy rider as a part of our tour in the morning, we got offered some puffed rice. It used to be the most popular snack when I was a kid. Nowadays, it is very hard to find it in the city. The scent of puffed rice reminds me a lot of the old days, when we had less but feel more. Thanks for the ideal of a snack that is not “industrial” for kids.

Because of the harsh climate and lack of arable land, Hmong people have developed a new method of cultivation among the rocky cliffs. They carry loads of soil on their backs and fill the niches by hand. The soil will be washed away in the rainy season, so they repeat the process in the next planting season. If you have chance to go to the Ha giang loop, you will understand why do we say “Hmong people force the rocks to bloom”

It’s said that wherever you see h**p, the Hmong people must be around. Indeed, h**p plays a key role in both physical and spiritual life of the Hmong minority. They believe that in 3 important days of people, they must wear clothes which makes from h**p: baby new born, wedding day and the day they pass away. H**p is a bridge to connect their life to their ancestors’s life.
