Week 1 Recap: Exploring AI and Food Technology Together
After an exciting first week, HCMUT International Summer Program 2026 – “AI Application in Food Technology” has successfully completed its first chapter, bringing together academic learning, hands-on activities, teamwork, and real-world experiences.
Taking place from August 3 to 15, 2026, the program offers an interdisciplinary learning experience that connects Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Computer Vision, Data Analytics, and Food Technology.
📚 A week filled with diverse learning experiences
The program began with an orientation session and an introduction to HCMUT’s international inbound student programs, before participants embarked on a series of academic sessions exploring how emerging technologies can be applied to the food sector.
Throughout Week 1, participants explored a wide range of topics, including:
🔹 Product Development with AI Tools
🔹 Sensor Technology for Food Quality
🔹 IoT Fundamentals and Smart Food Systems
🔹 Data Analysis and Visualization in Food Informatics Systems
🔹 Computer Vision in Food Quality Assessment
🔹 AI vs. Personalized Nutrition
🔹 Augmented & Virtual Reality for Food Education and Tourism
The sessions combined theoretical knowledge with practical learning, allowing participants to explore both the concepts and potential applications of emerging technologies in food-related contexts.
🤝 From learning to collaboration
One of the highlights of Week 1 was the Group Project and Presentation, where participants worked together to explore the journey of a local food product from its origin to the consumer.
Through the “Local Food Journey Infographic” activity, each group selected a food product and visualized its journey through different stages of the food chain, while considering aspects such as food quality, technology, traceability, and consumer experience.
The resulting infographics were not only creative visual presentations but also reflections of the participants’ ability to collaborate, exchange ideas, communicate across cultures, and connect academic concepts with real-world challenges.
🧪 Learning beyond the classroom
The first week also featured practical sessions on Computer Vision for Food Quality Assessment and AI vs. Personalized Nutrition, giving participants opportunities to move from theory to hands-on learning.
The week concluded with a field trip to Nature Foods (NFC) Company, providing participants with an opportunity to gain a closer look at the industry and explore how knowledge and technology can be connected to real-world food production and business contexts.
🌏 More than a summer classroom
One week has already brought many memorable moments – from classroom discussions and hands-on activities to creative group projects and new friendships.
The first week of the HCMUT International Summer Program 2026 has shown that international summer learning is not only about acquiring knowledge. It is also about sharing perspectives, working together, embracing differences, and discovering new possibilities through collaboration.
One week down. One more exciting week to go.
In Week 2, participants will continue exploring topics including AI-driven predictive analytics, data security, food traceability and blockchain, while also taking part in cultural activities and a field trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels. The program will culminate in the Final Group Project Presentations, Closing Ceremony and Awarding of Certificates of Completion, followed by a Farewell Dinner.
