🌿 A Little Piece of the Mountains, Brought to the Sea
When we started creating this room, we had one simple thought:
Could we bring a little piece of Vietnam from places far away — here, to the sea of Phú Quốc, the island we call home?
We are from Phú Quốc. We grew up with the sea, the sunshine, the coconut trees, and the simple rhythm of life here.
But the more we travelled, the more we realised how many beautiful places Vietnam has, each with its own character.
There are mountains, valleys and small villages far from this island — places with their own traditional crafts, everyday objects and unique cultures.
And we wanted to bring a little of that to Canaan.
For this room, we travelled to the Northwest of Vietnam, looking for old pieces and handmade objects that could carry a little story from those places.
Old flower vessels.
Handcrafted textiles.
Woven baskets.
Simple everyday objects, made by the hands of local craftspeople.
Some are old.
Some are imperfect.
But those marks of time are exactly what make us love them — because they are not simply beautiful. They once belonged to someone’s everyday life.
One of the pieces we brought back is a traditional woven basket, known in some mountain communities as a “bem.”
It is worn over the shoulder and has long been part of everyday life in the mountains, especially for people heading up to their fields and hillside farms.
Simple, practical, and handmade with care by local people.
We love pieces like this because they are more than beautiful objects.
They were once part of everyday life.
And so, these little pieces of the Northwest came back with us to Canaan, finding a new place here beside the sea of Phú Quốc.
Not to turn Phú Quốc into the mountains.
But to let a small room by the sea tell another story about Vietnam.
A little of the mountains in a room by the sea.
Old things meeting new ones.
Another part of Vietnam, brought back to Phú Quốc — the island we call home. 🌿
We hope that when you visit Phú Quốc, you will remember more than just the sea.
Perhaps, through these small objects in the room, you might become curious about otherparts of Vietnam — about the people, traditional crafts and distinctive cultures that exist beyond the beautiful places you see on your journey.
Because Vietnam is not only the places you see while travelling.
There are so many more stories waiting in places farther away, and we are happy to share just a small part of them with you. 🤎
