A roadtrip for Tet: From Hanoi to Tân Hóa – Best Tourism Village 2023
During the early days of spring, many travelers set out in search of a different space to begin the new year. In central Vietnam, Tân Hóa rests quietly in a limestone valley, offering a gentle retreat for those who wish to spend a few days exploring nature and experiencing a distinctive local culture.
From Hanoi, you can drive south via the Pháp Vân – Cầu Giẽ Expressway, connect to the North–South Expressway (CT01), then continue onto National Highway 15 toward Tân Hóa Village. The total distance is nearly 500 kilometers, taking around eight hours by car. As you approach Tân Hóa, limestone mountains gradually emerge through the mist, the valley widens, and rooftops appear at the foot of the hills, as if you’ve gently crossed a threshold between the city and the highlands.
Tân Hóa is where many expeditions by Oxalis Adventure begin. In the morning, guests gather at Tú Làn Lodge for a safety briefing before crossing open fields and heading into the Tú Làn cave system - home to Hang Bí Mật, Hang Ken, Hang Kim, Hang Hung Ton, Hang Tiên and more. Underground rivers, million-year-old stalactites, and endemic wildlife open up a hidden world beneath the earth’s surface.
Beyond cave exploration, visitors can join a guided walk through the Lim forest - one of the few remaining natural ironwood forests in Vietnam. The gentle trail winds beneath tall canopies, sunlight filtering softly through the leaves, creating a calm and refreshing experience suitable for families and children alike.
Back in the village, the rhythm slows. An afternoon bicycle ride takes you along quiet lanes, past gardens and fish ponds in the VAC model, the way locals live and adapt to nature through changing seasons. In the evening, dinner at a local home brings warmth through shared stories, sometimes accompanied by traditional chants echoing across the peaceful valley.
Tân Hóa becomes both the starting point of a journey and a place where emotions settle gently after the journey is over.oden rooms feel intimate and grounded; beds are neatly made with fresh, sun-scented linens, a small detail that reflects the dedication of local farmers who now embrace tourism with sincerity and pride. After a long day of trekking and river crossings, a herbal foot bath at Tú Làn Lodge offers a quiet moment of ease, allowing the body to relax as mountain breezes drift through the valley.
Tân Hóa becomes both the starting point of a journey and a place where emotions settle gently after the road has been traveled.
