We have had over five feet of fresh snow in the past two weeks so remember to bring your snowshoes or skis for the quarter mile trek into the cabin!

Over four feet of fluffy snow came to us over the past couple days! If you are looking for a place to back country ski or snowshoe, here’s the perfect place!

We had an epic bluebird ski day at silver lake this past weekend! stoke the wood stove before you head out on your adventure!
When you come back the cabin will be nice and toasty warm. Get out in it!
We got a tan, in February!

Epic blue bird day out here! Wish you were here? Book your stay asap! We have openings and they won’t last long.

Parking for the winter months is about a quarter mile ski in. Don’t worry it’s not that bad, our three year old does it ;)

At the moment the water pump os not working so we ask you to bring your own water. Reminder; this is a wilderness retreat. Outhouse facility only. No shower at this time but silver lake will wash away your worries ;)

We hope by the end of summer to have running cold water and have The wood fire sauna operational.

It was a pretty epic weekend paddling, catching fish and sharing cocktails with friends up at Silver Lake Basin.

The upstairs! The warm yellow glow from all that sunshine!
We still have some work to do to complete this space but it’s coming together nicely. We are in search of a nice big wool area rug for the yoga/hang out space and a small reading chair to place by the “book nook”. The two rooms we have made, one with a full size bed and the other with two twins, are cozy and will have black out curtains as doors and new linens.
Since the roof is at a steep angle the upstairs is only head height in the main area, you most likely will have to duck to get in bed. Remember it’s all part of the adventure. 😉

The inside projects are wrapping up and once the weather turns we hope to finish the exterior project and have the cabin rented! It’s close!

Relaxing at the cabin on a warm spring afternoon. Cocktails and charcuterie on the deck while we watch the kids run around the forest below. Spring birds, and laughter are the only sounds we hear.
We cannot wait to share our space with you!

Happy New Year!!!

We had our own mini ball drop to ring in the new year followed by a moonlit walk through the sparkling snow covered valley and drank frozen champagne..

It’s been a quiet few months in the north woods. Few have visited the cabin, close friends, spaced far apart with deep cleaning between stays. We are slowly opening our doors to invite new friends in. Slowly.
This past weekend we had two specials people stay with us. They got to witness one of our favorite transitions, when the green and brown colors of fall fade to crisp white in every direction.
The only sounds they heard was the drips of snow melting off the roof, birds singing and the crackling fire in the wood stove. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We hope you stay with us again soon!

We just wanted to say hi and spotlight John, one of the owners of Ellens Cabin. With the help of his wife Victoria they build birth bark canoes the traditional way. The boat he is holding is a miniature model that even come with tiny paddles! These boats are made using only hand tools, no power tools are ever used. Victoria walks their wilderness property collecting spruce roots and stitches the boats and John searches for the perfect birch trees for bark.
