Fagunia® is a solar powered, ecofriendly homestay and farm in the Himalayas near Nainital

Exactly one year ago today, we started Fagunia Foundation’s Centre for Learning, an after school support initiative with a belief that children in remote rural mountain areas too deserve access to quality learning, and opportunities to grow.

Today, as we complete one year, our hearts are full of happiness and gratitude. What began with just 2 children on day one quickly grew into a vibrant learning space with 50+ enrolments within just a few months.

Through tutoring support, creative activities, and holistic development, we are nurturing confidence, curiosity, and dreams in every child.

This journey has only been possible because of the children, families, tutors, educators, supporters and specially our generous donors who believed in the vision and became an integral part of our journey.

Here’s to one year of learning, laughter, growth, and community — and to many more ahead!

Here are some glimpses from the amazing time we have had with the children at CFL over the last one year. We can’t wait to see what the coming years will bring!

It is almost exactly 3 years since we finished making our Tuscan style wood fired pizza oven.

We had made it together with Tautik Das and he has now written a wonderful article on the whole experience for our website. As we are located right next to a forest, saving our crops from monkeys and langurs takes up a lot of our attention and time, especially when the harvest is near. Today was one such fastest fingers first kinda day. Managed to harvest the first lot of air potatoes (gethi) and hoping our simian friends will let the remaining smaller ones be so that we get to enjoy them later. Winter is round the corner so looking forward to roasting these air potatoes over an evening bonfire soon.

Today, Fagunia Farmstay turns seven years old! As we celebrate this, we also want to take a moment and reflect on the amazing journey we have had by highlighting 7 milestones from this year. Read below and swipe left for each of them.

1. Homestay: this year has been extra special as Fagunia Farmstay was awarded the Outlook Responsible Tourism Award 2025 for sustainable leadership in homestays! This couldn’t have been possible without the trust and support of our incredible guests, staff and partners.

2. Sustainability: we went fully solar powered recently and we are so happy to have achieved this key milestone in our sustainability journey.

3. Farm: our permaculture journey continues and we are learning every day how to grow a variety of crops and fruits and get closer to our goal of being self sufficient. It’s hard work but very, very satisfying.

4. Foundation: our social support work through Fagunia Foundation continues and with the new Centre of Learning suddenly taking off, we are grateful to do our little bit to positively shape the educational outcomes of school children in our area through our after school support programs.

5. Microlots: this year we also soft launched our farm fresh range of ultra small batch Fagunia Microlots products through our online store and locally. While this is still a very very small venture currently, we hope to slowly grow this over the next few years.

6. Experiences: our curated Fagunia Experiences continue to be popular with our guests and it is a special joy for us to share the things we are passionate about with them.

7. Self-reliance: we continue to learn new things every day, from Anil teaching himself woodworking and creating a home library to Aditi getting into sewing, this year has been special in our journey towards becoming more and more self reliant.

We are grateful to the universe for getting the chance to live this life in this gorgeous location and we cannot wait to see what the years ahead will bring. Please do hang around with us for that! Your love and continued support mean the world to us.
