ALERT | A 29-year-old Soshanguve woman, Jeanet Dineo Motau, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on a charge of theft involving approximately R900,000.
Her sister has now been arrested on the same charges.
Motau, a payment clerk at Baroka Funerals, is accused of allegedly replacing clients’ banking details with her own and diverting funeral claim payments into her personal bank account between May 2025 and May 2026.
The alleged fraud was uncovered on 27 May 2026 during an internal review of claim documents, when company officials reportedly discovered duplicate payments made into an account linked to the accused.
The matter was reported to police, and Motau handed herself over to Sunnyside Police Station the following day.
The case was postponed to 5 June 2026 for bail investigations.-YA.
