Addo Reach and Hein's Cottage B&B

Addo Reach and Hein's Cottage B&B A B&B in the heart of the Eastern Cape, SA. Just an hours drive from Port Elizabeth's International airport. Warmest welcome, views and relaxation assured.
(10)

Addo Reach is set in small village with good access from main roads. Crime and malaria free, there are none of the trappings of a hectic life. Instead, you’ll have great views, a chance to watch the stars in bright clear skies, opportunity to meet the local community and plenty of time to read, paint, write and feel at home. Your hosts, long term partners, John Bateson (retired engineer and sports

fanatic) and Eli Konstant (loves working in the local community, enjoys meeting new folk and handing out loads of TLC) look forward to your company. Our home is your home and we do all we can to make sure you feel that way. We offer B&B and self-catering in Hein’s Cottage which sleeps 2 adults comfortably, four at a pinch. Inside the main house, the well appointed rooms have their own access, giving you the freedom to come and go as you please. All rooms have en suite bathrooms. Our rate includes complimentary tea, coffee, hospitality toiletries and full servicing of your room on each day of your stay. Breakfast, light lunch, picnic basket and dinner are available on request. To ensure we can provide everything you need, please let us know your catering needs (including food allergies and preferences) when you book. We believe it is unique because it is away from the madding crowd, offering insights into the real rural South African way of life, with the benefit of being within reach of places of environmental and historical interest. Peace and quiet, the opportunity to relax and enjoy a respite from what could possibly be a very busy travel schedule. For those more energetic folk… a game of golf perhaps, along with excellent opportunities for mountain biking, hiking and cross-country jogging. We are here to help you to organise car hire from the airport if necessary, pack a picnic for your visit to Addo, book game drive etc. Right now we don’t have Wi-fi but our internet would be made available if you need it – an evening by the braai and chatting with neighbours and friends brings forth lots of ideas of peaceful and interesting things to do.

Being technically dyslexic I have to presume I have been hacked for it would seem I am selling a myriad of articles, and renting out a flat, on Facebook Marketplace. IGNORE completely!! What stupidity is it that gives people time to do such nonesense stuff.

We are lucky bunnies! Special people arrive as guests and leave as friends.

GOOD MORNING!!!!!! Brilliant quote on my Daily Maverick post today:

“It's never too late to have a happy childhood.”

Lucky we were - that's yours truly below, with my three brothers with our Christmas prezzies back in 1953 when my Dad was posted to Singapore. Our Amah was the biggest gift in the world. The Mother Person had convinced us that because we had only just arrived in Singapore, and cash was more than tight, 'Father Christmas' would not be visiting. Wide smiles I see from eldest Boetie and myself, but the twins don't seem much overjoyed!!!

Peaceful and happy weekend is wished - the clouds gather over the Dale, is humid, and we hope!

It surely has been a while - COVID now another kind, lock down, unlock, always a mask (and absolutely right too), loss of special people to pain the heart, no wine - buy buckets of the stuff when you can - of course, only to support the industry :) Drought, endless days without that amazing smell of rain on dry soil - then suddenly it starts to arrive. All hope was being lost of EVER hearing, seeing, smelling that totally amazing generosity of Mother Nature .... and then it came. Needed just a couple of good, noisy cascades and now I am able to send you a bunch of beautiful white roses - the foliage is lush, the blooms (some of which fade a little), still giving such joy. Tis true, Mother Nature gives the nod, and the whole garden just POPS!!! Such gratitude as a girl walks around saying hello to all that waited so patiently ...... it does offer up goosebumps aplenty. And so my lovlies, GREETINGS and wishes to one and all that The Holidays, Christmas, Festive Season, or whatever name you apply, is peaceful and love filled, and that 2022 (such a HUGE number:)) brings you health, safety, peace of mind and PLEASE, the will to continue to be part of caring for this amazing country of ours.

Hellooooooo, are you still out there, and I hope safe, healthy and looking forward to entirely better times.

Me thinks this was Mum and Dad being very patient with the little person, who was taking his/her time in deciding on whether to join the morning flight!! Watched them for almost three quarters of an hour, shuffling up and down, fluffing feathers and then all of a sudden they took flight. Perfection to add to the wet driveway which means, yes, we had a little rain helping to reduce the temperature from 43 degrees yesterday, to 21 degrees today - overcast and promising. Our water struggle continues, much at the door of Makana Municipality and their ineptitude, but community working to try and address this - but should the Heavens open - and the night sky behind that beautiful blue gum held such promise - the vision of our New Years Dam filling to the brim is something to hold on to! This Covid horror too will pass, and we send our wishes for safety, and also thoughts and love to those who might have lost a loved one to this pandemic. We are open on a 'social distancing respect' basis, lots of sanitizing and elbow bumps would welcome you. Take care of each other - onwards and upwards!
