Before the Karoo Art Hotel gets going, Rick is already on his bike with coffee in hand and music playing, heading out to meet the Early Morning Swim Club at one of Barrydale’s natural pools. Locals, visitors and hotel guests are all welcome to join in, so if an early morning dip sounds like your idea of fun, this is one invitation worth taking up. The ride home through the Karoo isn’t exactly a bad bonus either😉

Maybe the secret to a good morning is simply knowing where to find the cold water😋

A day in the life at the Karoo Art Hotel 🚗

Craig Harper, creator of the Harper Sportscar and the convenor and conductor of Art of the Passes, brings together a group of people who don’t need much convincing to get behind the wheel and head for the open road.

For them, it’s not about having a garage full of cars or keeping them polished and protected. It’s about driving them. Sharing the road with people who speak the same language, taking on the bends and climbs of Route 62 and enjoying some of the best driving country around.

And perhaps that’s why Art of the Passes feels so at home at the Karoo Art Hotel. Cars, art, character, good stories and people with a passion for what they do - it all fits rather nicely here.

We love having them here and we’re already looking forward to the next time the engines start up🙌

A big thank you to AP for coming to Barrydale, spending time with Sue, Rick and some of the artists who live, work and visit here and sharing their stories with the world.

Barrydale has become a place where artists come to create, learn, teach and find inspiration - whether they call our town home or are visiting for a workshop, a creative project or simply a few days in the Karoo.

Sputnik’s story continues🚙

The Karoo Art Hotel’s beloved media car took a knock when a garage collapsed during the recent storms.

Now, with Kwik Fit Waterfront coming to the rescue, the restoration is getting underway.

Fish Hoek-based rock star Bill Knight pops in to see what’s happening, as we take another look at Sputnik and the work needed to get this much-loved Rolls-Royce Motor Cars back on the road.

This Friday Albert Frost comes to the Karoo Art Hotel for an evening of live music, with his distinctive blend of blues, rock and folk and the versatility to move between acoustic and electric guitar🎸

Albert has been part of the South African music scene for decades, playing alongside some of the country’s best-known artists and building a reputation as an exceptional guitarist and performer. This Friday, Barrydale gets to experience that talent up close, with Albert taking the stage for what promises to be a memorable night of live music🎶
