THE HISTORY OF WOODY’S PLACE GUESTHOUSE

It all started when the Belfast Fly Fishing Association (BFFA) was formed and grew into one of the largest trout fishing clubs in South Africa, with more than 1200 members. It was clear that there was a need for accommodation in Belfast for Fly Fishers.

What began as a family home for Errol and Dee Woodhouse and their two daughters, saw an opportunity – and so, in October 1994 Woody’s Place was born, the towns VERY FIRST Guesthouse was established!!

It very quickly expanded to welcome international athletes training at high altitude, contractors, tourists, business and leisure guests looking for a peaceful retreat.

Built on word of mouth and genuine hospitality, Woody’s Place earned its reputation for clean, comfortable and welcoming accommodation – a true home away from home. Testimony to this are the many caps received from our Patrons who supported us over the past 31 years. (The caps remains in the bar- and braai area in the main house).

Errol and Dee retired at the end of 2025 and have proudly handed the baton over to new management and owners, Lara- and Etienne de Villiers (brother and sister) who will continue our legacy of warmth, care and community that has made Woody’s Place a cherished part of Belfast’s story. May they be as blessed as we were with Woody’s Place. May their journey ahead be just as wonderful as ours was and may they continue from strength to strength.
We wish them all the very best with their new venture.
