Dear guests, clients and friends.

Since the tragic fire in December, we have been absolutely humbled by the outpouring of support from all of you. We are eternally grateful for all of the incredible people we have met during our time at the lodge, and it shows what a really special place it is by the type of people who visit here. Without this support we would never have been able to get through the last few months and we thank you all for that.

We have not been able to post any updates as sadly too date ,there is not much to report back on...

As you all know nothing fast happens in Pondoland and this is for good reason. Mtentu lodge buildings is owned by the local community and there are many formalities that have to be followed in order to get things done. In order for projects to work effectively you need the buy in of the entire community and this can take time. Right now the Accoda trust is working together with our local community committee (Sivukile), to put plans in place for the opening of the lodge in the future. This means the trusts will be in charge of rebuilding the lodge and the funds raised to rebuild.

There have been delays in all this due to politics, a few community members personal agendas ,poor communication and many other factors beyond our control. Its an absolute injustice for everyone watching this play out.

All money we have raised will be paid towards this rebuild as needed. Thanks to all of you who have made this possible especially WHBO with your generous donation.

Thank you again for all of you love and support throughout the years.

We are deeply sadden and frustrated by the slow process of this rebuild as it affects so many community members livelyhoods .

We have offered our help in everyway possible, we have presented ideas and plans for the build. We have orgainsed contractors who would help build etc etc.

We will keep supporting this rebuild in anyway we can and can only urge those who have the responsibility do get things done...to do so with urgency.

As soon as there is any progress we will keep you posted.

Recovery from the fire update

Clean-up started last week, the site is looking much better, and progress is being made. Our team on site has worked daily ,sorting through debris and clearing the site. Our community has been amazing with their help and support.

Our admin and management team have worked around the clock sorting out guest's queries, refunds, fundraising, and putting together different ideas to get back up and going.

We just want to thank everyone who has come out to support us through all the messages, calls, emails and donations to the fundraiser campaign we set up. This tragedy has affected so many people, so we are extremely grateful for all your efforts .

We still have a long way to go so please keep sharing far and wide.

On the 27th December Mtentu Lodge main entertainment area caught fire and burnt down. We lost everything that makes the lodge run including the kitchen, bar, seating area, office, store room and workshop. However no guests or staff were harmed in the blaze and for that we are eternally grateful.

Mtentu Lodge is a community partnership lodge. The local community own the land and all the buildings on the land. Over more than 10 years the lodge has become a successful tourism business supporting over 13 staff and many local spin off businesses. The lodge is central in the fight against proposed exploitative titanium mining in the area. Without the lodge there is no strong cornerstone of tourism in the area. This means that there is no alternative to mining for the community and so the lodges success is important in the fight against the destruction that the mining will bring.

In order to get the Lodge back up and running we need to rebuild the main lapa area and restock it with everything needed to run the lodge again. Our first focus is to raise enough money to rebuild the lapa. We need to buy timber and building materials. All our tools and nearly all of our equipment was lost in the fire and it will all need to be bought again.

In order for the lodge to have a chance of survival and for our staff and community to regain their livelihoods we need your help!

Good morning

Last night at around 11:00 we suffered a severe blow at the Lodge, when the kitchen area set alight destroying the main lapa area which houses the bar, seating and serving area and lounge.

We are assessing the situation at the moment. we are so thankful nobody was hurt, all staff and guests are OK.

However, due to the nature of the damage, regretfully, we have no other option than to postpone all bookings until further notice.

This will give us time to access the damage and make alternative plans to accommodate guests once again.

We will keep everyone posted on a daily basis with the progress and outcome.

We trust that you understand our situation and that you will bear with us.
