Belmont Guest House has updated the way people can contact us. There is still our landline number (051 448 8168) and email address ([email protected]), but recently we also added a cellphone number (072 563 0877) as this will enable us to answer calls when we are out the office. This will also enable us to reply to WhatsApp inquiries and provide pin locations to guests needing help to locate us. Go Cheetahs! Bloemfontein will be hosting a great rugby game between the Free State Cheetahs and Georgia on 11 July. We don't often get international games here, so this will be a nice treat to go and support our local lads. Another big event on the horizon is the Vryfees been held at the Free State University. This promises to be a fun outing with loads of food stalls, arts and crafts. Make sure to squirrel away some money for the festival as nobody leaves without a few snacks and trinkets. The more the merrier is a saying often used to say more of anything is a good thing. Belmont Guest House has a great setup for group bookings. Several of the rooms have 2 single beds or 2 double beds. This means that 2 people or a family can share a room and have their own beds. This helps save money as instead of needing 2 rooms, you are only needing 1. This also means you can now afford to book a breakfast or dinner when you make your booking. Not all of us are winter babies. Most would be quite happy to be at home all day, wrapped in a thick blanket and in front of a warm fire. Fortunately Bloemfontein winters involve cold mornings and nights, and the rest of the day being hot enough to wear summer clothes. For those traveling to Bloemfontein, dress warmly and keep up with those Vitamin C tablets. Belmont Guest House has our guests covered with electric blankets, aircon and thick winter blankets to keep the cold at bay. There are 2 big events coming up in Bloemfontein for July. First is the Kunstefees at the Free State University from 2 till 6 July, and the other is the SA vs Portugal Rugby game on 20 July. It's that time of year when the mornings become colder and the night has a slight bite to it. It looks like it will be a traditional Free State winter i.e. cold nights and warm days, and we have started to put electric blankets and thick winter blankets on the beds. We still offer dinner during the week day nights (Monday - Thursday) so you don't have to travel far for food. Just make sure to arrange a dinner request with us when you make your booking. Belmont Guest House is fully booked for the Portugal vs South Africa rugby, but we still have space for the Vryfees at the FS University from 2 July till 6 July 2024. And off we go! It feels like yesterday that we celebrated New Years Eve, and we are almost 1 month done into this year. This month has treated us well with several long term guests and a few gatherings to make the quiet weekends a bit more fun. The weather has also helped a lot to keep an otherwise hot month bearable and cool. Although there isn't much events on the go yet in Bloemfontein, don't make this an excuse not to visit. From historical attractions to Nature Reserves, to malls and great restaurants, we will find a way to make your stay in Bloemfontein enjoyable. It is always a great treat when Bloemfontein gets international games been played here. These events help bring foreign tourists to our city, and also provide a nice break from the usual day to day routine. An ODI cricket game between South Africa and Australia is due to be played on the 7th and 9th of September, so make sure to get your tickets for these games. Almost 6 months down and then we are into the last 6 months of 2023. This year has had its share of ups and downs, but we can all agree it is a better business year since Covid appeared and knocked our feet out from beneath us. Covid did a lot of damage not just to people but businesses also, so it is always good to see our regular clients returning to Bloemfontein. Hopefully this is a sign that we are almost back on the road to pre Covid levels, and that things are picking up for the country. Unfortunately we seem to be stuck with loadshedding for a while, but as the old saying goes "you can't have your bread buttered on both sides".
