100% Design Africa Discover the best in contemporary design at Africa's largest curated design platform

30 July – 02 August, Sandton Convention Centre

100% Design Africa is far more than just an exhibition. As Africa’s only international design show, 100% Design Africa is the launchpad that the industry needs to enter onto the global stage. Through the spirit of exchange, this hybrid trade event brings key members of the interior industry together, showcasing all manner of contemporary designs from across the continent – from furniture and product design to specialised areas like art, literature, and crafts. As a phygital platform, 100% Design Africa combines the power of physical exhibition space and events, with the power of digital storytelling, enabling innovative ideas to be showcased in new and exciting ways. Through the use of technology, we’re able to make the trade fair a more dynamic and interactive space, with greater reach and relevance than ever before.

What happens to light when it meets clay?

At *Aether Commons: Refracted Cosmologies* in Warsaw, work by Andile Dyalvane and Zizipho Poswa joins an exhibition that looks at light through painting, sculpture and installation.

Dyalvane’s *Ngcip-ngciphu* and *Incindi* and Poswa’s *uMameKhaya* bring their distinct ways of working with clay into a conversation that stretches well beyond illumination.

Curated by Azu Nwagbogu at the Fundacja Stefana Gierowskiego, the exhibition runs until 18 October. Southern Guild

African craft had many voices at Homo Faber in Venice this year.

Ronel Jordaan Textiles felted forms sat alongside basketry by Angeline Masuku, woodwork from Favourite Design Studio in Eswatini, weaving by Madagascar’s Made For a Woman, bronze sculpture by Hamado Zoundi and textile work by Princia Matungulu.

They're just a few of the makers from across the continent whose work appeared in the 2026 exhibition. A celebration of different materials and traditions, each opening up its own way of seeing what a skilled hand can do.

Swipe through for a look back on the names from the continent that shone at what was another incredible celebration of global craft's most beautiful platform.

Later this month, Pan Afrikan Design Week comes to Cape Town with a question we should all be asking: how do we design to thrive?

From 21–24 October, designers, educators, cultural practitioners and people working across other fields will gather at the V&A Waterfront to talk about the conditions we create for people, communities and places across the continent.

The programme moves from Afrikan futures and cultural identity to the wider effects of design decisions, and the skills we’ll need next.

Convened by the Pan Afrikan Design Institute with Open Design Afrika as local host. Find the full programme and tickets through

What does luxury look like when a place takes its cues from the landscape, the city around it, or the people who make it?

These six new and newly reimagined stays take us from The Pinnacle Kigali and Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts Rabat to the Wilderness Mara, JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, the Anantara Tented Camp Kafue River and Lake Kivu . Each has a different answer, and each gives us something to look at beyond the view.

Here are six African stays on our design radar.

For Sarah Langa, this year’s Decorex Africa theme, The Soft Life, was more than an opportunity to explore design. Creating her debut stand at Decorex Joburg became a way to explore the idea of ‘softness’ itself, reflecting on her past and identity as she shapes the future of Sarah Langa Interiors.

Watch Sarah share the story behind her stand, and go deeper into the thinking, stories and ideas shaping African design on Decorex Academy.

Decorex Academy is your year-round connection to the people, perspectives and conversations shaping design. Subscribe at the link in our bio and keep learning beyond the show.

We first spent time with INDALO: Crafted in Eswatini at 100% Design Africa in Joburg, then came across the collective’s work again in Paris.

There’s a wonderful range to it: woven grass and sisal alongside ceramics, soapstone and objects for the home. Across the collection, familiar materials and skilled craft take on new forms through collaborations between Eswatini makers and designers.

The work brought Favourite Swaziland, MasterArtworks, Siyaphambili, Tintsaba and Welcome Mashaba to the floor in Joburg. Seeing it again in Paris was a lovely reminder of how far these makers’ work is travelling.

Swipe through for a closer look.

There was a detail at 100% Design Africa that you could only see from above.

The 100% Iconic, Ten x Ten, and Local Pavilion stands came together this year to form the 100% Design logo. Three separate exhibitions made up of individual spaces, with one larger idea connecting them.

100% Design is all about the birds-eye view of design right now, a celebration of the big picture.

Here’s the view we’ve been waiting to show you.

Robin Sprong began with a photographer looking for a better way to put images on walls.

Large-format printing opened up a possibility: a wall could hold a photograph, an illustration or an artwork made for that space, rather than a pattern chosen from a sample book. An early project at Cape Town’s Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel helped set the direction.

Since then, the studio has built a catalogue through long-running collaborations with artists, photographers and designers, including Skinny laMinx, EstéMacLeod and clintonfriedman ™ It has also taken that knowledge beyond wallpaper, producing work across fabric, glass, wood and other surfaces for interiors here and abroad.

What we love is the thought that goes into the translation. The artwork has to remain recognisably the artist’s, even as scale, colour and material change the way we experience it.
