Today, on World African Wild Dog Day, we celebrate one of Africa’s most fascinating and endangered predators.

Next time you see a wild dog during one
Of our game drives at Elephant Plains remember these fascinating facts below:

Teamwork is everything — wild dogs live in highly social packs and work together to hunt, raise pups and care for members of the pack.

Those enormous ears have a purpose — their large, rounded ears help them locate sounds and are part of their remarkable adaptations for life in the African bush.

Some evenings are best spent around the fire.

As the sun sets over the bush, gather around the boma for a dinner under the stars, good food, warm fires and the sounds of the wilderness all around you.

The Ndzenga male at the waterhole after feeding on a buffalo.

Lions can consume up to around 40kg of meat in a single meal, but after a feast like this, water is just as welcome.

World Elephant Day 🐘

At Elephant Plains, elephants are more than a sighting, they are part of who we are.

As our namesake, these incredible giants hold a special place in the heart of the lodge, and there is something truly unforgettable about experiencing them up close in their natural environment.

World Elephant Day is a reminder to appreciate not only the privilege of seeing elephants in the wild, but also the importance of protecting the habitats they depend on.

Come for the safari. Stay for the moments you’ll never forget. 🐘🌿

World Lion Day

Every cub we see at Elephant Plains is a reminder that conservation is making a difference. Their survival means another generation of lions growing up in the wild, learning the ways of their pride and, one day, carrying that legacy forward.

On World Lion Day, we celebrate these little paws, the prides that protect them, and the ongoing work to ensure there will always be a place for lions in the wild.

Because seeing cubs today gives us hope for lions tomorrow. 🤎

The Nkuhuma Pride is thriving.

It’s not easy to witness, but it is the circle of life in its purest form. Wild. Raw. Necessary.
