Our guests often want to know more about the history of our property. This is what we know...

Kelkiewyn Guesthouse was established in 2000 by Meta Strauss, who was also a renowned home economics teacher and artist from Caledon. At the time, she also owned and operated a cottage in Mill Street (Nonna) and The Painted Lady in Donkin Street.

Initially, Kelkiewyn consisted only of the main, original Victorian house in Prince Alfred Street. (We're not sure of the exact historical date and context. The back of the only little photo we have shows a scribble: Versailles 1912)

After a few years operating as a guesthouse, an annex was built to the back of the property, adding another 6 rooms, laundry, and storeroom to the existing 3 bedrooms of the house.

Kelkiewyn soon became one of the main guesthouses in Caledon and the big 'red' building, a landmark to many giving directions.

After Meta unexpectedly passed away in 2016, her niece, Henriette (Henri), and Adam Barnard decided to continue her legacy and took ownership of the gracious old building. It needed a lot of TLC...

To say it has been challenging at times would be an understatement, but after years of renovations, upgrading our guests' rooms and leisure areas, we are proud of what we've accomplished. We realise this is an ongoing journey, but we believe in Caledon and the potential of the town and its beautiful people.

We are incredibly proud and appreciative of our dedicated team who, with their warm country hospitality, adds that extra special touch to your stay in the Overberg.

🌞We are now loadshedding friendly!🌞

Last weekend, we had the privilege of hosting a groom and his lovely family. He tied the knot with his gorgeous bride at on Saturday. 💍🥂♥️

Kelkiewyn became the family's home for the entire weekend and sjoe, they definitely had joy, and they had fun. They had all seasons, and then finally a bit of sun🌞
It was one big celebration, including a braai and some late night dancing in the lounge, practicing for the next day's occasion. 🕺 💃 We loved being a part of their happiness.

Kelkiewyn Guesthouse can host up to 20 guests in our 8 self-catering units, giving you exclusive use and access to all our public areas.
