A blossoming spring day!

From shopping at the market for farm eggs, sourdough, yoghurt and more, to collecting handmade jewelry, walking in gum boots up the river, planting our herb garden, preparing for some very special guests arriving to enjoying the most spectacular sunset.

Happy and productive day, welcoming the new season in all its glory.

Goose House Cottage.

Tucked away in a secluded valley, where Klipspringer frequent and Klapperbos stand tall. At the entrance to the mighty Waterkloof, where CJ Langenhoven was reputably inspired to write part of our national anthem… “Waar die kranse antwoord gee” (where the cliffs answer).

It is a tiny artists cottage in structure but gigantic in stature.

It’s been snowing on the Swartberg mountains! We had to go witness this special occurrence. Bitterly cold, icy wind, lots of rain but absolutely stunning. The sun is out again and the fires are burning every night keeping our guests cosy. Nothing quite as heartwarming as winter in the Karoo.

Did you know....? Daniel's Kraal farm is a wonderful base from which to explore this natural wonder.

The small Karoo town in South Africa is one of three places in the world where you can see the Red Stone Hills.

A few favourite corners around the Farmhouse.

The flood water has subsided. The seasonal streams on Daniel’s Kraal Farm are still trickling. Cango Caves reopened.

The mountains are green and the flowers are promising to be a spectacular tapestry of color this year.

A perfect Klein Karoo winter’s day!

All the seasonal streams are running and the surrounding areas.
Hearing running water in the Karoo is the sound of life singing and is truly a blessing.

Exploring the area on one of the most scenic drives through Groenfontein, Kruisrivier & Red Stone Hills, is one of our most favourite drives in all of South Africa!

The dam is filled to the brim again & the mountains are teeming with lushness & life! The Karoo in all its splendour is worth a visit this time of year.

Winters in the Karoo … certainly are for cosy fireside snuggles, melting marshmallows over the coals, starry nights, an explorative drive of the area with a packed picnic basket, a hosted evening with a home cooked roast from our Karoo kitchen or early morning coffee and rusks at the lookout point.

The blooming alloes are also spectacular this time of year.
