Each year, Egyptian Geese make themselves at home around the hotel and this year is no different. The little ones have officially arrived too, although they’re proving slightly more camera shy than their parents.

For us, they’ve simply become part of life at The Bay Hotel.

At Coast to Country, warm koeksisters are served alongside smooth coffee and velvety kondensmelk, bringing together comforting local flavours that feel especially fitting for the winter season.

Sweet, syrup soaked and traditionally braided, koeksisters have long been part of South African food culture, while kondensmelk adds a rich, familiar sweetness many guests instantly recognise.

It’s a dessert shaped by warmth, tradition and the simple joy of lingering a little longer around the table.

A closer look reveals the landscape woven into the space.

Inspired by the Cape Fynbos surrounding Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, the artwork by South African artist Hermien van der Merwe brings movement, texture and the natural rhythm of the mountain landscape into The Bay Hotel.

Her work draws from the changing seasons of the Fynbos biome, shaped by wind, fire, rain and drought, translating the energy of the Cape into layered colour and expressive detail.

Featured within the lift interiors, the installation transforms an everyday moment into something immersive and quietly reflective of place.
