Sustainable Stays has again officially achieved carbon-neutral short-term rentals. In the financial year 2024/25, we offset 64.93 tCO₂e through the Credible Carbon standard.

We use the HCMI Methodology, in line with global hospitality best practices, to accurately measure and manage our data and impact. By improving our data collection and accounting for more operational factors, we’ve reduced our carbon footprint per occupied room-night from 17.69 kgCO₂e to 15.86 kgCO₂e - a meaningful step forward in our sustainability journey.

Our offsets directly support Walker’s Recycling, a local community initiative dedicated to environmental restoration and economic empowerment. Through this partnership, tourism becomes a force for positive change - creating local jobs, protecting biodiversity, reducing pollution, and strengthening the connection between people and their environment. This project also reflects our commitment to waste reduction, recycling, and the circular economy, keeping materials in use, reducing landfill waste, and preventing pollution in waterways. Every action, from mindful resource use in our units to broader operational improvements, contributes to measurable environmental and social impact.

As South Africa’s first carbon-neutral short-term rentals operator, Sustainable Stays continues to lead by example, championing responsible travel, conserving resources, and empowering communities.
