Exciting news! The Barracks Cape Town, a R150-million inner-city mixed-use development, by brothers Mike and Casey Augoustides is nearing completion. According to Casey Augoustides, the restoration of the lower building was completed some time ago, and now the second phase upper building will come into use during November. “Over the next two to three weeks, you will notice very significant changes to the site as the scaffold comes down and the new upper building is unveiled. You will also notice the completion of the signature sloping edge of the Strand Street elevation as the angled glass balustrades go up. The upper building will be run by TPF Hospitality on a short-term letting aparthotel model for visitors to our beautiful city whether for business or leisure. We also have an exciting new restaurant operator called Cowfish and a bespoke wellness centre on the rooftop by Lighthouse Holistic Therapy. We also have a wonderful new tenant with Shelflife taking over a large portion of the ground-floor retail early next year.” The Barracks, one of the Cape Town CBD’s most well-known heritage sites, is one of the last projects of the late heritage specialist architect Gawie Fagan and is being completed by the continuing staff and partners of Gabriel Fagan Architects.
