Our Story
Blake House is home for international interns and post graduate students in Cape Town. Since 2010, we have become home for people from across the world, from Botswana to Germany, the Netherlands to the United States, Mauritius to France.
We are conveniently located in the heart of Observatory, in a quiet street, close to the railway station, the JammieShuttle bus route, AFDA College, City Rock Climbing Gym and Lower Main Road where supermarkets, restaurants, shops and nightlife can be found within 2 mins walking distance of the house.
Blake House was conceptualised to cater for the needs of the international students who experiences the shock of cultural dislocation on arriving in a new place with no friends. Three interlocking houses have been beautifully renovated to provide an excellent balance between privacy and community and to forge friendships. Blake House boasts 24 bedrooms (single, double, or twin), all with en-suite bathrooms and fully furnished. These open into a range of shared community spaces, also furnished to foster both exploration and reflection.
There are two common Chef's kitchens with granite and stainless steel work surfaces, hobs, oven, microwaves, fridges, individual lockers, all cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery. Industrial washing machines and tumble driers are also provided. Lounges have fire places and dining areas are furnished with dining tables and chairs, each with 42" HD TV with full satellite channels. Fast fibre internet completes the package. Different garden courtyards with outdoor furniture allows for relaxation in the sun, and also for indulging in the very South African tradition of braaing(barbeques). These are the spaces in which life-long friendships are built.
