So life returns to Monkey Valley. People starting to sit on the decks in the sun, stay in the cottages. Our restaurant feeling the way as demand increases. And the weather balmy and gorgeous sunsets over the beach and the water at least 20 degrees for about 2 months so far. Even a few whales. So come to Mama. The putt putt could do with the sound of little Voices.
Thanks to all the back a buddy contributors who are trying to keep our staff going while the income teeters to life. What a crazy decision lockdown was!
So to all our friends and fellow Monkey Valley enthusiasts we are thinking of reinventing ourselves to cope with what we have at the moment.
So we are going long term rentals.
So imagine having very human friendly office space to run your businesses from here and do your meetings on our deck and training in one of our venues just as needed.
Then people sharing shop space. Wine tastings, travel advisors. Adventure tours . Solar design and equipment suppliers. Therapists with wood fireplaces and greenery and ocean views . Shops or shops spaces, pop up restaurants around our decks. We already have started a deli shop . We’d love to hear your ideas. Performers in our theatres for example.
What about a scone shack type in our vegetable garden or a pop up fine dining up in the magnificent Crowned Eagle. What about living here?!?!

Loving Local #2
The Zeitz MOCCA Museum of Contemporary Art
One can be forgiven for thinking you have been transported to another country, place, space in time. The Zeitz MOCCA is one of those rare places that leaves your jaw on the floor from the minute you lay your eyes on it.
A stroke of creative genius designed by Architect Thomas Heatherwick. The structure, an old grain silo, is literally brought to life by the dynamic design. So refreshing to see an iconic structure used for its potential, rather than having some shiny cold structure replace it. The silo is filled with curves and grand spaces that seemingly merge into a constant flow of delight and grandeur. The atrium is the heart of this mega structure, one you could sit and stare at for ages as its beauty is awe inspiring. The carved out silos on the side of the structure house the tubular glass lifts which take you all the way to the top, upon which (if you are brave enough) allows you to stand on one of six glass floors looking straight down into the silo. A rather surreal experience.
I cannot speak enough about the absolute eye candy this Museum is. The spiral staircase, the use of light and dark, spatial awareness, curvature, how the history and parts that have been left in place and brought to life again, old verses new . The Zeitz MOCCA is the epitome of the word contemporary and that is in its structure alone.
The exhibitions and exhibiting artists take this masterpiece to another level. With the works of William Kentridge (exhibiting until the tail end of March) and Otobong Nkanga (exhibiting until the end of February) you truly get lost inside the history, culture and heart of Africa as a whole.
This is definitely a spot that you could spend half a day in if not longer. On arrival you are met with professional, friendly and knowledgeable staff. You are given a device which allows you to have a personal guide of sorts throughout the whole museum. Explaining every piece of work throughout the different levels of the museum. I would strongly recommend taking full advantage of this as it makes understanding the different artists and their ideology so much more intimate. I saw a lot of people walking through without understanding the pieces they were seeing, which was a great pity. The Zeitz is child friendly and it was wonderful to see a few children lapping up its grandeur in their own way but if you want to fully take in everything the Zeitz has to offer i suggest setting aside a half a day for yourself to explore this gem.
The Zeitz MOCCA is definitely high up on the list of "Loving Local" . A must see for everyone.

The Scone Shack
When it comes to authenticity The Scone Shack stamps its mark firmly on an "off the grid" experience. Situated on Plateau Road, on route to Cape Point Nature Reserve, nestled in the gates of Lalaphanzi Farm you will find this little hidden gem.
The Scone Shack is a fusion old farm charm with an eclectic up-funk sense of an Eco community. From the minute you walk in you are met with little heart felt touches that speak volumes of the beautiful couple that own and run The Shack.
Appropriately named The Scone Shack because of their mouth watering scones. Freshly baked on a wood fire oven and served with the most delectable homemade jam and fresh cream . Made even more special by being able to order freshly squeezed juices.
Chose a place to sit, in one the many little scattered pads. Each comprising of different chairs and tables, an Alice In Wonderland vibe would best describe it. Go inside the Shack which is specially put together with different window panes and frames, scattered with photos, trinkets, every corner an inspiring piece of heart. Take a walk around the farm and get some loving from the resident rock star pig, named Bacon and his precious partner Pickles. When its warm you can take a dip in the farm dam or a little canoe across it. Let the kids go go- carting on the home made track and carts. Meander through
the succulent nursery .
Whatever you do The Scone Shack is definitely a place not to be missed. Local at its best.
