Waddle you waiting for? Penguin Palooza is back! 🐧

Join us on Saturday, 7 November, at Stony Point Nature Reserve in Betty’s Bay for a day of family fun, celebrating African Penguins, and the work being done to protect them.

Stony Point is one of the last places on Earth where African Penguins still breed on the mainland. With the species facing growing threats, protecting this colony and raising awareness about its conservation are more important than ever.

Bring the family, learn more about these remarkable seabirds and discover how we can all play a role in protecting our coastal wildlife.

📅 Date: Saturday, 7 November 2026
📍 Venue: Stony Point Nature Reserve, Betty’s Bay
🕙 Time: 10:00 am

CapeNature’s Donation Scheme aims to support and uplift the communities surrounding our nature reserves. We have partnered with local non-profit organisations (NPOs) to ensure that gently used clothing, blankets and other essential items donated by our guests reach people who need them most.

Each participating nature reserve has a local organisation that receives guest’s donations:

📍 Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve — Mosaic Training Service and Healing Centre, which works to strengthen the prevention of and response to domestic and intimate-partner violence.
📍 Kogelberg Nature Reserve — Hermanus Night Shelter, which provides safe shelter and supportive services to people experiencing homelessness.
📍 Cederberg Wilderness Nature Reserve — BADISA, whose Clanwilliam branch provides child protection services.

These organisations work in different ways but share a commitment to supporting people and strengthening communities. By adding a gently used item to your packing list, you can share something you no longer need with an organisation that can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

A small donation can become part of something much bigger.

A Win Worth Celebrating! 🏆

Robberg Nature Reserve has been named the Best Outdoor Activity in the Best of Knysna & Plett Readers’ Choice Awards 2026.

This recognition means even more because it comes from the people who know and love the area. Over the past few months, communities across Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Sedgefield nominated and voted for the businesses and experiences they value most.

To everyone who voted for Robberg, visits the reserve, explores its trails and shares their love for this special place, thank you.

We’re incredibly proud to see this special reserve recognised by its community. Robberg continues to be a place where nature leaves a lasting impression. Congratulations to the Robberg team and thank you to everyone who made this win possible.

The challenges were set, the teams were ready, and the competition was on at CapeNature’s first Ranger Games! 🏆

Held at Callie de Wet Stadium in Robertson last week, Ranger Games brought our rangers together for a day of friendly rivalry, fun challenges and the chance to find out which team had what it takes to win the grand title.

The day was all about celebrating our rangers as they put their conservation knowledge, practical field skills, strength, and teamwork to the test.

From the knowledge quest and kettie skiet to tug of war, cheer squad performances, and addrenaline-fuelled relays, the teams brought their energy and determination to every challenge. Simulated fire suppression, hose-handling drills, and medical emergency scenarios also tested the skills they rely on in the field, while creative team introductions and spirited war cries added to the excitement.

Congratulations to the Venom Warriors, the overall winners of our first CapeNature Ranger Games! They scored the top in all categories and displayed great team comradery. 🥇

We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship shown by every team. The games were a chance to recognise the people behind our conservation work, celebrate their skills, and strengthen the bonds that make us stronger together.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day a success!

There are often items we no longer use or have space for, that could make a difference in someone else’s life. On their own, they may seem like ordinary items but passed on at the right time and to the right place, they can become something much more: a warm layer on a cold day, an essential that someone needs, or an item that makes everyday life a little easier.

That is the idea behind CapeNature’s Donation Scheme. Guests visiting Grootvadersbosch, Kogelberg, or Cederberg Wilderness Nature Reserves can donate a gently used item by leaving it at the designated collection point at our nature reserves.

Before visiting our reserves, pack in a gently used item and give it a new purpose.

From the rocky shores of Betty’s Bay to other breeding sites along the Western Cape coast, African Penguins are an important part of our coastal biodiversity. However, their numbers have declined at an alarming rate, making the protection of their breeding colonies and the marine environment they depend on more important than ever.

A shortage of food poses a serious challenge, alongside climate change, and disturbance at breeding colonies which adds further pressure to an already vulnerable species.

Protecting African Penguins means safeguarding their breeding sites, reducing disturbance at nesting colonies, improving access to food and supporting the research and conservation efforts needed to help populations recover.

At CapeNature, we work alongside conservation partners to protect important coastal habitats, including the Stony Point penguin colony. The future of the African Penguin depends on the choices we make today. By protecting their habitats and the marine environments they rely on, we can help give these endangered seabirds a fighting chance to recover and thrive along our coastline.

CapeNature is proud to achieve WESSA Green Coast Status for Walker Bay Nature Reserve and to be named the WESSA Annual Corporate Award Winner.

This award recognises our outstanding and sustained contribution to biodiversity conservation, eco-tourism, community development, and environmental education. Through our stewardship of protected areas, marine and coastal environments, biodiversity, wetlands, and ecosystems across the Western Cape, CapeNature continues to safeguard some of the country's most globally significant natural landscapes while expanding protected areas and strengthening biodiversity stewardship.

The recognition comes as South Africa marks 25 years of coastal stewardship, with WESSA celebrating 62 Blue Flag sites and 19 Green Coast sites nationwide. The Blue Flag is an international environmental award programme recognising beaches, marinas and tourism boats that meet high standards for environmental management, water quality, safety, accessibility and environmental education. Similarly, the Green Coast programme recognises coastal sites that demonstrate effective conservation management, community participation, environmental education and responsible tourism.

Looking ahead, WESSA aims to achieve 100 Blue Flag beaches by 2030, reinforcing the importance of sustained investment, collaboration and care for our coastline.
