Update from us....

With South Africa now in level 3 for our COVID-19 lockdown and domestic business travel now a possibility, we at Hilltop Garden Cottage will be able to open our doors as of the 13th July 2020.

This is due to the fact that the cottage is a stand alone garden cottage, and we can provide a 'no-contact' entrance and exit for all our guests.

We will have new protocols in place that are in alignment with both Airbnb and local government legislation.

Airbnb has provided all hosts around the world with a 5 step cleaning process which involves the following:

1. Prepare: the cleaner is to allow recommended time before entering the cottage after a guest has left; wash hands and kit up in protective gear; enter cottage and ventilate the space.

2. Clean: Using sanitized cleaning equipment, move through the cottage and clean. Remove linen, dust and debris from cottage. Linen is to be washed at the highest recommended heat settings, and all dust and debris is to be bagged and disposed of separately.

3. Sanitize: Once all surfaces are clean, sanitize and allow to air dry.

4. Check: Double check that frequently touched surfaces have been sanitized.

5. Reset: Wash hands and put on clean gloves, mask and protective gear before refilling guest supplies, towels and linens.

To support our guests with their own personal proactive sanitizing, will be provide the following:
- Disposable paper kitchen towels
- Disposable gloves
- Multi-surface cleaner
- Disinfectant wipes or spray
- Antibacterial hand sanitizer
- Extra hand soap

During our guest's stay, the cottage will not be serviced. This is intentional so as to avoid any potential cross-contamination between staff entering the cottage space to clean.

Due to the added labour involved in ensuring our guest's and staff's safety, we will have a day in between the arrival and departure of each guest.

Phew!......That was a mouthful.... but we hope this info has provided you with all you need to know to feel safe during your stay with us.
We look forward to hosting again.

When we FINALLY get to welcome guests into our cottage space again, this is the fabulous local sanitizer creating team that we will be supporting.

COVID-19 has come up with a range of words that have been 'invigorated and refreshed' during this challenging time....never did you expect yourself to see the words PIVOT and UNPRECEDENTED so often in media copy.....we now do the eye-roll when we hear them :).

And, yet, this is exactly what Unit 43 Distilling Co did!!!

In UNPRECEDENTED times they PIVOTED their highly renowned gin brand to making sanitizer in a matter of weeks.

Vacation Rentals, Homes, Experiences & Places - Airbnb

Hi Hilltop Garden Cottage fans :)

Due to the obvious changes we've experienced globally with no tourists visiting from anywhere.....I've decided to put the cottage (usually used for Airbnb ) up for a short term rental up until the end of November 2020.

The cottage is fully furnished, includes WIFI, DSTV, servicing & laundry twice a week and off street parking for 1 vehicle.

The cottage is suitable for a single person who is happy to live in a family compound environment with kids and dogs on the property.
As the cottage is only 50 square metres it's really not suitable for kids or pets and could be really tight for a couple for this length of stay.
The garden is a communal space, but can be sectioned off for a private garden space.

Important to know: the cottage is super close to UCT, Newlands Village, Kirstenbosch and Newlands Forest.

Monthly rental: R9000.00

Day 1 of South Africa's 21 day lockdown and Hilltop Garden Cottage waved goodbye yesterday to it's last guest for the foreseeable future.

The space has been sanitized (no offence to the fabulous and fastidiously tidy Alan) and packed up for the moment to remain dust free.

P.S. this pic is consciously taken at the dressing table in the cottage bedroom....those little blue hearts on either side of the mirror are locally made from reclaimed wood and are so beautiful. Hilltop Garden Cottage has the most amazing view onto two of the most beautiful old Cork Oak trees which according to tree historians are definitely over 100 years old. These trees are originally from the Mediterranean and were brought over to Cape Town during an era when collecting exotic trees was a very fashionable past time for the upper classes.
Cork Oaks can have their bark removed every 9 years and it will happily grow back. They can live up to 200 years and do not need insecticides, fertilizing and irrigation.
Our trees at Hilltop provide cool inviting shade in the summer months, safe cosy homes for the grey squirrels that nest in them all year round and a strong, sturdy landing spot for Egyptian geese and Hadida's.
