Hello everyone, we have been very quiet during winter. Our houses have been rented out long-term. But we are gearing up towards the SUMMER - which is well on it's way!

I wonder how many people have ever seen this famous red orchid, emblem of the Western Cape? Showy flowers in shades of red, pink and very occasionally yellow are borne during summer from December to March with a peak flowering period during mid-February. I pounced at the opportunity to hike up our mountain and view this beautiful specimen in its natural surrounds - and can highly recommend doing so should you get the chance!
