We are a carbon-based society.About 85%of the energy used in the world today comes from fossil fuels.As energy usage increases,the amount of gaseous emissions of carbon compounds into our environment continues to rise.These include mainly CO2 but also CH4 and CO.The "greenhouse effect" is a name given to the trapping of energy in the earth's atmosphere by a process very similar to that occurring in glass-enclosed greenhouses in which plants are grown.The increase in global temperatures correlates well with increased concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere.For the next two decades,a warming of about 0.2C per decade is projected by some models.Such temperature changes will affect the earth's climate in many ways,such as more intense storms,precipitation changes,and sea level rise.Another problem due to increased burning of fossil fuels is local and international air pollution.The high temperature and pressure used in the combustion process in automobile engines have the unfortunate consequence of also causing a reaction between atmospheric nitrogen and oxygen that results in some NO formation. The NO can then react further with oxygen to produce NITROGEN DIOXIDE.This poisonous brown gas is further oxidized to form nitric acid,HNO3 in the presence of water.

Oil is another widely used form of energy.Fuel is derived after refining the oil.With the increasing number of vehicles on the road,the rate of oil consumption is also increasing.During the oil refining process,CO2 is released into the air.When vechiles burn the fuel,other greenhouse gases are also released into the air along with CO2.These emissions contribute to global warming.If less fuel is used,there would be fewer emissions,which would,in the long way,help to control climate change caused by global warming.

Crude oil is refined in oil refineries to produce important fuels such as kerosene,gasoline,diesel,LPG etc.Natural gas is burned to produce electricity,cook food and for other heating purposes.However,oil and natural gas refineries release enormous amounts of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.

All over the world,gasoline and diesel are the largest for running vehicles of all types.They are produced by refining crude oil in oil refineries.These oil refineries emit large amounts of greenhouse gases that cause global warming.In order to curb global warming it is necessary to save energy and start finding replacement for these energy dense and easily transportable fuels.
*RENEWABLE SOURCES
There are five types of renewable energy sources
Solar energy :Sun's energy in the form of heat and light.
Hydro energy :The kinetic energy of water.
Wind energy :The energy developed from strong winds.
Geothermal energy :The energy produced from the heat inside earth.
Biomass energy :The energy produced from plants and trees.Fuels like ethanol and biodiesel are made of corn and vegetable oil respectively.

A clear understanding of the science of climate change has allowed for a carbon budget.Essentially,the calculation involves estimating how much atmospheric carbon will risk pushing average global surface temperatures 2°C or more above the pre-industrial average -a guardrail that governments worldwide have agreed should not be exceeded.
The bottom line of the carbon budget is simple :to have a 75 percent of avoiding more than 2°C of warming,over the first half of their century humanity can emit no more than 1000 gigatonnes of CO2.That sounds like a lot,but by 2012 only 672 gigatonnes remained.At the rate we're burning fossil fuels,we'll have used up the entire carbon budget by 2028 just over halfway into the budget period.
A big problem arises when we compare our remaining carbon budget with the worlds valued reserves of fossil fuels (that is,these listed on stock exchanges worldwide).
It turns out that if we burn all the valued fossil fuel reserves,we'd release around 3000 gigatonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.As of 2015,our remaining budget is about 600 gigatonnes,which means that,if humanity is to have a fair chance of a decent future,about 80 percent of the world's valued fossil fuel reserves must be left in the ground.
