That Friday Feeling at De Hoop Collection.
Book a Guided Interpretive Marine Walk and learn about the abundant marine life found along De Hoop's rocky coastline. You'll explore tidal pools and sandy beaches while a qualified guide points out interesting marine life forms. Also a great way to experience the Southern Right Whales in the bay between June and December. Depart an hour before low tide from the meeting tree. Times of daily low tide should be confirmed with reception the day before.
Duration: 2 hours. Please book via reception.

Time for a mid-year getaway?

The Cloete Suites are situated in the Opstal area within close proximity to the Fig Tree Restaurant. Two of the suites (1 & 2) have a view of the grasslands where bontebok, eland and mountain zebra amongst others can be seen grazing, while Cloete Suites 3 & 4 have a spectacular view of the old majestic fig trees in the courtyard. Each suite is beautifully decorated and has a seating area and an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Cloete Suite 1 has a lovely fireplace for those chilly winter nights.

The Opstal area is a central base from which to explore the reserve. The Fig Tree Restaurant can be found here and is open all day, everyday and serves delicious meals prepared using locally sourced produce. There is a tennis court, swimming pool and a boules courtyard.

We've had such fun with our new Winter Holiday Mini Ranger Programme at De Hoop Collection. We made moulds of animal spoor, roasted marshmallows and learnt about the stars, went on a family nature quest, adventured out after dark on a scorpion hunt, and spent time at the Origins Exhibition for a special tour and time in the kids' museum.

Looking for a unique cultural experience for the whole family this winter?

The ‘Origins of Early Southern Sapiens Behaviour’ exhibition highlights the Southern Cape coastline’s archaeological heritage and rich marine environment and showcases the unique archaeological discoveries that have been made at the archaeological sites – Blombos Cave, Klipdrift Shelter and Klasies River occupied by early Homo sapiens between 120 000 and 50 000 years ago.

The culmination of a lifelong passion and commitment to documenting human origins and indigenous wisdom by Craig Foster (co-founder of the Sea Change Project, the producers of the Oscar and BAFTA winning documentary, My Octopus Teacher) and Damon Foster and decades of archaeological research in the southern Cape by SapienCE scientists Professor Christopher Henshilwood, Dr Karen van Niekerk, Professor Sarah Wurz and their research teams, the exhibition first opened in 2018 at Spier Wine Estate.
