In case you ever wondered...

We've never seen more public awareness of the antiquated story about our innate immune system. Long ago, society believed the human body was sterile — we assumed that sickness leads to a compromised immune system, leaving you subject to harmful bacteria.

We now know that the human body isn’t supposed to sterilize itself. Rather, a healthy human state encompasses all different kinds of structures of organic garden happening in every single organ system. Everything from our liver, to our bloodstream, kidneys, lungs, and even our brain has healthy flora.

Our innate immune system is an intelligent machine that keeps us in a thriving relationship to this biodiversity. It never tries to kill a virus or bacteria, but welcomes that biodiversity into its environment. We don't make antibodies to kill — we do so to bring ourselves into balance.

Further, our bodies are exposed to genomic updates that challenge our immune system as a means to get to a higher level of intelligent surveillance.

Take chickenpox, for example, as an important update that all humans should experience for a healthy immune system. Chickenpox permeates into the body through the dermis, affecting the respiratory tree, the gut, and the skin, which dominates 99% of the immune system.

When a child recovers from chickenpox to a healthy state, they become more resilient against autoimmune disease and cancer. Conversely, if that child never gets the update, he is subject to higher rates of chronic disease and disorder in the decades after.

Autoimmune means our immune system is now mistaking our own body for a foreign invader. So our intelligence to our own biological self-identity relies on this external information coming in from viruses, bacteria, fungi and other organisms. And the more of those organisms you have, the more you live in a thriving state.

It’s that MAGICAL time of the year again when the Jacaranda trees are out in full bloom and the City turns PURPLE! 🌱🍃💜💜

Each year, from late September to November, Jacaranda trees go into bloom in South Africa. These beautiful trees are especially abundant in Pretoria and Johannesburg, draping the cities in a magnificent display of colour.

More about Jacarandas 💜🍃
The word ‘Jacaranda’ is believed to mean ‘fragrant’ in a native South American dialect, and the trees are known for their purple blossoms. Having said this, some species boast beautiful white petals, although they’re much rarer in South Africa. Find these white wonders in Herbert Baker street in Groenkloof, Pretoria.

The flowers also have an air of magic around them. South Africa’s university students believe that if a Jacaranda flower falls on your head during exam time, you’ll pass all your subjects!

In 2001, the iconic trees were declared a ‘category three invader’, as they replace and compete with indigenous species. Although new trees can’t be planted, the established Jacarandas have stood their ground (quite literally) and will continue to brace the country with their colourful petals.

We will pin this post to the top of our page so that once again you can share your sightings of the beautiful Jacaranda Trees with our awesome community while on the road 😊🙌
