Each year, between January and March, the southern plains of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area transform into one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife spectacles.

Over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born within just a few weeks.

It’s a season of new life — but also high drama. Within minutes of being born, calves must stand and run, as predators like lion, cheetah and hyena wait nearby. The abundance of vulnerable young attracts incredible predator action, making this one of the most thrilling times to safari in Tanzania.

The calving season offers:
✨ Vast herds spread across endless green plains
✨ Exceptional predator sightings
✨ Baby animals everywhere you look
✨ Fewer crowds than river crossing season

If you’ve always dreamed of witnessing the Great Migration, this is one of its most intimate and rewarding chapters.

Would you rather see the river crossings… or the newborns? 👇

They are safe havens for species, and powerful tools for conservation.

Protecting biodiversity means safeguarding our health, our food, and our shared future.
