Daytrip to the West Coast National Park 23.08.2022
I used the the first real springtime day with 27 degrees with a perfectly blue sky and decided to make a trip along the West Coast to see how far the flower season was already ...and I had an almost perfect day with lots of wildlife (even a big molesnake on the road, lots of turtels, gemsbok and springbok, flamingos, ostriches and some zebras .. and of course lots of wild flowers in all colours you can imagine...still not the peak of the season, I would say, but already impressing enough

The end of winter/ beginning of spring is a highly fascinating time of the year- not as warm as usually during the rest of the year - but the whales are back, the flower season along the West Coast is starting, the beaches are extremely beautiful because they are empty and there is hardly any annoying wind at this time of the year - and there is so much space everywhere, also in the Winelands.
Come and enjoy on your own - you will get addicted to this place !

1st August - so we are still in the middle of our cool winter, but this year with hardly any rain again.
But the days are sunny and warm already and there is a lot of action going on. The whales are back, and a local marine conservation photographer, Jean Tresfon, shot some nice pics on his recent flight along the coastline of the Cape Peninsula- have a look at these amazing sightings… and the sunsets at home in our guesthouse.
It is time to go on my own expedition again !! So should you ..

Our ex nightshift man ( and now ready to become a lawyer) Jonathan is at home in Zimbabwe at the moment and he sent me a list of the official salaries of state employees in Zimbabwe ( like nurses or teachers ) . The list refers to the monthly salary , not the daily salary!! It is unbelievable and shocking - a teacher earns only something in the value of US$ 54 - but it helps me to be even more humble for what we have than before … and the rich Western countries and all of us are still complaining….. 😢
(For a reference I use the burger index: 1 ordinary cheeseburger in Zimbabwe costs US$ 5…)

Today we went to the BoKaap Open Air Dining Experience- a vibrant show of art and delicious food from the Cape Malayan part of this city - in one of the most beautiful areas of CapeTown, the popular and colourful BoKaap. It was a brilliant sunny day in winter , and we had lots of fun there.

Apart from all the fascinating wild animals in the game reserves in this part of the world, we are also very lucky to be able to experience other amazing animals in our cold oceans as well… it is June, so the whales are coming back here from the Antarctica and the first ones have already been spotted along our Southern shores and they will stay until the end of November, when the summer is coming back . This is definitely another good reason to spend your next holidays here in South Africa- even in winter or early spring!

It is 5th June - so we are in winter now, but it just feels like a perfect summer: 29 degrees today , the sun is about to set in 1 hour already - but it is still 25 degrees Celsius 😊.. no wind, perfect blue sky, an empty city …even the wild animals are enjoying it

THE PRESIDENT HAS SPOKEN: South Africa just announced that fully vaccinated tourists coming here no longer need a negative PCR- Covid-Test before they enter the country. So travelling gets much easier and less expensive for those who join the fight against this pandemic and show their solidarity. A wonderful step into the right direction to support much needed tourism here .
Also the official wearing of a face mask outside ( which was not done for almost half a year anyway) was also scraped- only inside it is still mandatory. Smart decision!

Valentine‘s Day .. and the MS Europa 2 arrived in CapeTown .. on a very very hot summer day and a beautiful tropical night …. And lots of animals came back „home“ to us today after we had rescued them or fed them after they fell out of their nest or into the pool
A baby pigeon that we had taken care of for the last 14 days, a beautiful young butterfly that was drowning in our pool… all were very calm and peaceful and grateful… if the human mankind would ever be so nice ???

Die südafrikanische Ärztin , Dr Coetzee, war diejenige, die die Omicron-Variante entdeckt und über ihre klinischen Erfahrungen mit den Krankheitsbildern berichtet hat… und es ist erschütternd, zu hören , dass sie von europäischen Regierungen gezwungen wurde, ihre Erkenntnisse nicht zu verbreiten. Das spricht doch Bände über die diffamierende und arrogante Verhaltensweise Europas gegenüber Südafrika zur Aufrechterhaltung ihres „Feindbildes“ und der „Bedrohung“ durch Covid … mich erschreckt es, aber es erklärt die völlig unsinnige und medizinisch nicht vertretbare Methode, die Europa angewendet hat, um den Katastrophenzustand aufrecht zu erhalten - auf Kosten vieler Existenzen hier in Afrika - und auch in Europa.

There are so many reasons to come to South Africa and enjoy this beautiful country .. and all of this with an incidence of 64 (Germany 515, France 1680, Italy >2000) cases of Covid-19 per 100000 people in 7 days- and almost no restrictions anymore here…
(Some of these photos are not even my own, I just use them from people here in this country who enjoy it at the moment - I hope they do not mind 🙏🏽)

Obviously my repeated (8 times!!) complain letters to 4 different departments of the German government (Health, Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs and The Chancellor !) about the ridiculous classification of South Africa as an area of Virusvariant ( Omicron) finally reached one of these stubborn decision makers and they realized that there is more Omicron in almost every country in Europe and USA and Canada and Qatar etc than here in South Africa.. so where actually are the areas of virus variants????
At least from 4.01.2022 all the Southern African countries including South Africa will be categorized as high risk areas only- so no more need to quarantine for 14 days when you fly back to Germany 🕺🏻🕺🏻.
Tourists- what are you waiting for now? We only have 8000 new cases every day ,the Omicron wave has passed its peak already and the weather here is excellent and everything is open …. What are you waiting for ?
And I can finally fly to Germany to work again without staying in a quarantine hotel for 14 days !! Heaven has listened and sent some intelligence to the German authorities- 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Just after a 20 hours long electricity outage in most parts of CapeTown due to a fire along the main supply line , I received a message from our ex- maid Merilyn who worked for us for several years… she managed to emigrate to England together with her husband and kid in order to find a safer and better place to live and more options for her future. I am very happy for her - and also kind of proud that we contributed a little bit to the success of this well-educated, studied and trained ambitious lady …

UK lifts South Africa travel ban

Wonderful news:
The UK government has lifted the unjustified travel bans for the Southern African countries from 15.12.21 onwards - because there is no medical sense in doing this anymore as the Omicron variant was detected all over the world now already , even with people who had no connections to South Africa…
When will the German (new and more flexible ?????) government come to the same conclusion? Again in 7 months like it happened the last time ? God- please give wisdom to these new people in charge in Germany !!! They are killing us - but they won’t stop the variant to come to Germany as well… they just won’t stop it!

The UK has removed South Africa and ten other countries from its maligned ‘red list’ for travel.

Yesterday evening we spotted a big group of whales along the coastline here in Sea Point, just as we walked along The Promenade. Like in many years before , they seem to gather here in front of the Sea Point Pool and give their best to say Goodbye to CapeTown before they are leaving the area again.. it was a fascinating experience again , supported from a gorgeous sunset and a rainbow over the mountains… just fairly unreal, but amazing❤️❤️

Pandemiebekämpfung erfordert Transparenz und Solidarität. Wie das geht, hat Südafrika gerade gezeigt. Es sollte dafür nicht bestraft werden.

Finally they found an Omicron case in Saxia in Germany ( as well as in Portugal, Scotland, Belgium and Canada) where there is no connection to a journey to South Africa or any contact with people travelling from here)… that is what happens when you finally start to look a bit closer as the scientists have done it here before… and now I believe they should also declare Germany as an area of virus variant … ( nur um auch “ alle nötigen Register zu ziehen “ wie man es hier auf meine bisherigen Kommentare und Kritiken an dieser unsinnigen Reisebeschränkung von Seiten der EU beschrieben hat …) - but I am sure this will never happen ( as always, nothing is happening in Germany and we wait and observe how the Delta wave is going to overrun our health system , but it is always helpful to point at others to cover their own failures )

President Ramaphosa just hold his awaited speech to the nation about the current Covid situation- and despite all the dramatic and unjustified over-reaction in the EU and UK , the US and Dubai and Turkey and Australia and Canada ( and few more countries) with travel bans to and from South Africa , this country will stay on the lowest lockdown alert level as it was the case before - Level 1. So nothing is changing here , we can still live the same relaxed way we could for the last few months - also because all the patients here so far only have mild symptoms under the Omicron variant . And he also accuses these countries to act against all the intentions that they pretended to use in dealing with this worldwide pandemic as it was agreed on 1 month ago on the G20 meeting in Rome… they all act completely different now although there is no scientific proof so far for a more severe outcome of this variant.
Brave man - the first one to tell these arrogant and misinformed leaders in these countries their mistakes and by doing it in this destructive way of shutting off South Africa and its neighbors from the world , also destroying the tourism and the whole economy and many livelihoods in these countries with this unjustified action- but they just do not care! Wow - I am deeply impressed and hope that some of these folks around Boris and Angela (or is it already Olaf ?) and Ursula and Emmanuel and Joe might listen to these words… 🙏🏽

Absolutely correct ! And completely unjustified- the one case that was now discovered in Belgium was a traveller who was in Egypt and flew home via Istanbul to Brussels-He was never here in South Africa.. so why don’t they then shut down Egypt or Belgium ??? It just does not make a lot of sense - and it will finally kill the tourism in the Southern African countries

The German ( and British) government just released a statement that because of a new variant discovered again here in SA ( our medical researchers seem to be much better and faster than those in Europe😂😂) all travelers coming back from SA have to quarantine for 14 days, even the fully vaxxed and boostered ones …
That is the end of this guesthouse - I have no more words…😢😢😢😢
But at home they watched the rising numbers for months without doing anything … God- what have we done to deserve this treatment?? Not even the WHO nor the South African Health Department were able to classify this new variant as a variant of concern so far - but why do these European countries decide to do so ? Because they need somebody to be responsible for their failures during the past months ?? And to rectify the necessary restrictions that they did not dare to start so far but that have to be done to secure the health care system ??? I do not know- but I have no other explanation …

The official document for our wonderful Jonathan and his achievement with a Bachelor of Laws!
Now he can go and fight for the rights of the underprivileged ones in order to give back to the community. I just hope that someone will offer him a decent job now here in this country or anywhere else (in a NGO or a law company ) where there is need to support the people for their rights ( and duties).
