WINTER 2013
From the magnificent Grand Entrance to the brand new Patio with it’s 180 degree view of gardens and mountains the Summiteers have worked hard on ensuring we can delight all tastes. Check us out on Trip Advisor!
The Winter Solstice has come and gone almost unnoticed to Cape Town. In the antipodes, druids at Stonehenge indulge in 5000 year old paganistic rituals celebrating the longest day on the calendar, virgins frolic in placid lakes under the midnight sun of Belarus and Swedish Vikings soaking up the elixir of endless day light see their libidos soar to new heights. All the while, humble mortals in the Fairest Cape barely notice the shortest day but manage to consume the finest wines the planet can offer, stoke the occasionally needed fire and enjoy the Cape’s biggest secret: regular crisp sunny days interspersed with the odd bracing Antarctic Front. Winter is here! Days are cooler, leaves are gone and rains have brought regrowth. The Mountain inspires bold relief constantly reminding us how fortunate we are to dwell in the shadow of a world heritage site. The great outdoors still beckon, Southern Right Whales pass our shores and Great White Sharks return for their annual breeding feast in False Bay.
We are privileged to live in such a temperate climate. The vines of Constantia may seem dormant now, but the vineyards are busy as workers prune off the old vines and prepare for the September bud burst. Deep in their cellars Constantia wine makers are blending, tweaking, and tasting the 2013 Vintage – a hard job, but someone has to do it. At Summit Place we have been busy too, the recent upgrades at Summit have brought an amazing transformation. Our fully enclosed patio with breathtaking views of the mountain is now a cosy place to relax in any weather. See our website for pictures! Our returning friends and guests agree that the recent changes have enhanced every aspect of their stay; from the fresh tasteful room refurbishments, new reception and enclosed patio to green flower-beds lining the driveway. We are grateful for their kind reviews which have pushed our Trip Advisor rating to a new level. Thank you.
Making the most of our views, our rooms remain very well positioned and now boast refreshed interiors that invite complete relaxation. We retain our focus as a four star Guest House ensuring we can offer exactly what you are looking for. We are green too. Our new solar heating system has reduced our carbon foot print by 30% and soon we intend to install a solar photovoltaic system to reduce our foot print by a further 50%.
Our team is also operating at a new tempo. A few months back, we welcomed a brand new Summiteer to the family. Louisa is our new Guest House Manager. Louisa, Tendi, Neil and Wendy look forward to welcoming guests old and new. Louisa has spent over 20 years in hospitality and comes with a wealth of experience in the bush, the beaches and wine-lands, covering a fair cross section of Southern African countries. Our entire team is committed to ensuring you will be well looked after!
